Do you have a passion for teaching? The Ambulatory Care Centre at Royal North Shore Hospital is seeking an experienced Registered Nurse to provide clinical leadership in the role of Clinical Nurse Educator.

Employment Type: Temporary Full Time until 5 February 2027 (with possibility of ongoing employment)

What we are looking for:

As a Clinical Nurse Educator (CNE) in Ambulatory Care, you will be a key driver of learning, professional growth and best practice within a tertiary outpatient service. You will mentor, coach and support nurses to build confidence in their clinical skills and take pride in the care they deliver.

Working in close collaboration with the Nursing Unit Manager (NUM), you will be responsible for the planning, delivery and evaluation of clinical nursing education. This includes facilitating education sessions, supporting and orientating new staff, coordinating orientation programs, promoting a positive learning culture, and providing one-on-one, in-the-moment education on the clinical floor. You will also contribute to teaching in nursing courses as appropriate within NSLHD.

The ideal candidate will bring strong communication and interpersonal skills, a proactive, can-do approach, and a genuine passion for education and staff development.

Where you'll be working

The Ambulatory Care Centre is a dynamic and vibrant facility, housing over 40 outpatient specialty clinics, serving both outpatients and a limited number of inpatients. With an average of 600 patient presentations daily, we offer specialist consultations, minor procedures, and post-operative care in a state-of-the-art environment.

Our multidisciplinary team includes around 200 medical consultants, allied health professionals, specialist nurses, and dedicated support staff, all working together across different clinic spaces and specialised areas such as the Integrated Hand Unit, Phototherapy, and the Medical Day Procedure Unit. The Unit hosts a variety of medical and surgical clinics, including endocrine, dermatology, ophthalmology, ENT, neurology, plastics, spinal, upper GI, vascular, urology, allergy, hand therapy, and orthopaedics. We also offer several allied health-run services.

We offer a Monday-to-Friday roster with no night shifts, allowing for a balanced and fulfilling personal life. A collaborative team that values mutual support and professional growth.

What you'll be doing

The NSLHD Nursing and Midwifery Workforce will be compassionate, competent, confident, contemporary, capable and committed to leading person-centred health care.

The Clinical Nurse Educator will be guided by the Nurse Unit Manager and Clinical Nurse Consultant in leading, developing, co-ordinated and implementing all structured learning for nurses within NSLHD.

The Clinical Nurse Educator will provide clinical teaching, orientation, skill accreditation and professional development support for all nursing staff and students.

The Clinical Nurse Educator will have a role in the provision of hospital orientation and mandatory training. They will also be expected to teach in courses appropriate to nursing within and at facilities external to NSLHD.

The Clinical Nurse Educator will participate in the development and teaching of the NSLHD Nursing Professional Development Program (this includes travelling to other sites within the LHD for lecturing and facilitation of workshops).

People of Aboriginal and/or Torres Strait Islander background are encouraged to apply.

Candidates will need to meet the following criteria:

* Holds AHPRA Registration as a Registered Nurse AND holds relevant clinical or education post registration qualifications or such education and clinical experience deemed appropriate by the employer.
* Demonstrated effective communication skills, both written and verbal.
* Demonstrated ability to work both independently and as part of a team.
* Demonstrated computer literacy, including sound knowledge of Microsoft Teams, Excel and hospital-based clinical systems
* Demonstrated ability to practice safe nursing care and knowledge of policies and clinical practice guidelines.
* Demonstrated commitment to evidence based practice, continuous quality improvement and risk management.
