Responsibilities
The Assistant Principal Special Education will support the School Leadership Team in creating, sustaining and repairing connections with students and families, leading trauma‐responsive education model and ensuring inclusive, equitable learning environment. Specific duties include:
* Approving and developing special education programs for students with autism, emotional disturbance, complex learning and behavioural needs.
* Implementing trauma‐responsive and restorative practices that promote resilience, emotional regulation and positive behaviour.
* Leading and developing evidence‐based, differentiated teaching and learning practices, and monitoring individualised programs.
* Building and maintaining positive, inclusive, trusting relationships with students, families, staff, external agencies and the wider community.
* Contributing effectively as a dynamic member of the executive leadership team and leading whole‐school initiatives aligned with the school's strategic directions.
Qualifications & Experience
* Full approval to teach special education and/or experience teaching students with autism, emotional disturbance and/or complex learning and behavioural needs in a support class or SSP.
* Demonstrated experience and understanding of supporting students with high complexity, including trauma, through trauma‐responsive and restorative practices.
* Proven ability to lead and develop evidence‐based, evaluative, differentiated teaching and learning practices and to design, implement and monitor individualised programs.
* Evidence of a highly visible, approachable and collaborative leadership style with capacity to build and maintain positive, inclusive relationships and partnerships.
* Demonstrated ability to contribute effectively as a dynamic member of the executive leadership team and to lead whole‐school initiatives aligned with the school's strategic directions.
* Successful teaching experience with capacity to initiate improvement in teaching, learning and classroom practice.
* Knowledge of curriculum, assessment and student welfare with the ability to lead and design quality inclusive teaching and learning programs.
* Educational leadership skills to build the capacity and manage the performance of individuals and teams.
* Well‐developed communication and interpersonal skills with the capacity to build relationships and engage students, staff and parents.
* Ability to plan and manage resources effectively and equitably to support teaching and learning.
* Knowledge of and commitment to the Department's Aboriginal education policy.
