Job Title: Registered Nurse
Department: Nursing
Responsible To: Director of Resident Care
Purpose
Reporting to the Director of Resident Care and the Resident Care Coordinator. The RN is responsible to participate in the planning, feinting and implementation of total nursing care to meet the medical and holistic needs of the individual resident in accordance with the philosophy, objective and policies of the Home.
Responsibilities
- Maintain standards of practice and code ethics; know and execute the mission statement, philosophy, goals and objectives of the Northside Community Guest Home.
- Maintain a working knowledge of policies, procedures and standards of the facility and seek clarification when needed.
- Identify and provide for the holistic needs of the individual resident and medications ordered by the attending physician.
- Observe and record reactions, signs, symptoms and evaluate the resident’s progress.
- Supervise the care given by auxiliary nursing personnel and subordinate staff.
- Assist with duties of nursing staff and provide direct care to residents when needed; give leadership on nursing technique.
- Provide for the community of resident care by referral of residents to appropriate community agencies as necessary.
- Oversee the unit regarding housekeeping, activity program and dietary needs of residents.
- Attend and participate in nursing conferences at the beginning and end of the duty and exchange information on assigned residents.
- Assist the physician in diagnostics tests and therapeutic measures where required.
- Promote resident acceptance of the medical treatment and Nursing Care Program and the practice of good health habits.
- Co‑operate with other members of the Care Team and personnel of other departments in providing total resident care.
- Initiate and attend Nursing staff meetings regularly, taking an active part in the team.
- Participate in the in‑service education program.
- Develop and maintain good public relations and an effective working relationship with residents, the general public, other employees and attending physicians.
- Contribute to the welfare of the resident by providing a comfortable, orderly, clean and safe environment.
- Assist in orientation of recent staff members.
- Implement cost controls; evaluate subordinate nursing employees.
- Follow home policies and procedures when carrying out duties and refer staff to the same when appropriate.
NB: These duties are the basic and prime requirements of the job. Allied and related duties may be assigned from time to time as may become necessary to the operation of the Home.
Qualifications & Education
- Graduate of an approved School of Nursing.
- Current CRNNS registration.
- Current CPR Level C.
- Current WHMIS certification.
- Progressive nursing experience demonstrating leadership ability and competency as a practitioner (including practical nursing if applicable).
- Knowledge of Gerontology, Alzheimer’s and related dementias.

Working Conditions
Sitting, standing, bending, lifting intermittently. Subject to interruption and unpredictable behaviour.
Hours of Work
Subject to rotation.
