About Your Role
This position provides therapeutic counselling and advocacy to children, young people, and their families when physical abuse, emotional abuse, neglect and/or domestic violence has occurred within the family.
The role of the CPCS clinician is specialised and complex, focusing on intervention to maintain the child or young person in their family where possible, aiming to prevent recurrence of abuse, prevent placement breakdown, and help families address the impacts of abuse and neglect.
Counselling is the core task, but responsibilities also include co-ordinating health service delivery, advocacy for client interests within the child protection response, and providing consultation, support, education, and training for health workers on child protection issues.
Violence, Abuse and Neglect services are provided under the Priority Populations Program (PPP) within the MLHD, working collaboratively on projects, training, and client work.
CPCS is a trauma-informed, child-focused counselling service working with children, young people, and their families and carers.
