Your role at St John of God St John of God Ballarat Hospital
In this role, you will provide acute medical services within the Emergency Department. This includes liaising closely with accredited Medical Specialists, responding immediately to Code Blue calls, and assisting with the assessment, review, and management of medically unstable patients, including both inpatients and those presenting for acute admission.

Our hospital offers 260 beds and features newly built, state‑of‑the‑art facilities completed in 2024, including an expanded ICU/CCU, advanced operating theatres, and a modern 30‑bed inpatient ward.

24‑hour Emergency Department
Approximately 17,000 adult and paediatric presentations annually 18 Emergency Department beds
Other services include Critical Care and Cardiology, General and Speciality Surgery and Endoscopy, Inpatient Specialist Medical and Rehabilitation Services, Obstetrics and Gynaecology, and Specialist Oncology and Haematology.

The Position
Direct patient care in the Emergency DepartmentRecord keeping including appropriate certificates and discharge planningLiaison with specialist and other medical practitionersPatient billingIs available to review any patient on the Ballarat campus whose condition causes concern, and/or nursing staff unable and the medical specialist or MET team doctor are unavailable. Is available when on call to attend the Emergency Department within 30 minutes of notification. Works with a variety of medical, nursing and allied health practitioners in a multi-disciplinary care environment. Promotes and facilitates ethical medical practice to all patients. Ensures their behaviour and presentation as a medical practitioner maintains and enhances the professional standing of SJGHC Ballarat in the community. Undertakes all reasonable duties and rosters as allocated by the Director of Emergency or the Director of Clinical Teaching and relevant PhysiciansParticipates in after-hours and weekend rosters.
You will have General registration as a Medical Practitioner with the Medical Board of Australia (AHPRA) and a fellowship in either FACEM, FACRRM or FRACGP or equivalent.
You will be an experienced medical practitioner who can demonstrate a capacity to manage high acuity patients independently with demonstrated substantial clinical experience.
