Trainee Animal Care Services – Certificate III in Animal Care Services
Townsville City Council is seeking applications for the 2026 Trainee intake. This is a 24 months maximum term full-time traineeship with a 9-day fortnight. Earn while you learn, with a requirement to complete a Certificate III in Animal Care Services through a formal trainee program.

* TCS555 ($34,471 per annum + superannuation). Adult (over 21 upon commencement) TA21AD $47,923 per annum + superannuation

About The Role
Under close supervision, this position undertakes a competency-based traineeship to develop a range of skills in animal care through formal and on-the-job learning activities. The role assists the Animal Care and Adoption Centre team in providing care and basic animal health to animals housed at the shelter. The position involves completing a 2-year Certificate III in Animal Care Services at UQ Skills. The qualification information is available via the University of Queensland.
This position will commence in February 2026.
About You
Ideal applicants will meet the following criteria:
* Willingness to promote a positive safety culture and adhere to Health and Safety policies
* Minimum completed Year 10 with passes in English and Mathematics
* Current Working with Children Clearance (Blue Card) or ability to obtain
* Minimum Queensland C class provisional driver's licence (or ability to obtain)
* Sound written and verbal communication skills
* Sound computer skills
* Ability to work effectively within a team
* Willingness to undertake the requirements to successfully complete the associated qualification
