The organisation
The Australian Council for Educational Leaders (ACEL) is the largest not-for-profit association in the education sector in Australia, with a growing network of 4000 members and over 45,000 subscribers from classroom teachers through to system leaders.
With branches in each state and territory, ACEL actively supports the development of educational leadership capabilities across Australia through conferences and workshops, public and bespoke leadership programs, in-house publications and online resources.
The role
ACEL is seeking an inspirational leader to build on its strong reputation, proud legacy, and unique standing in the education sector, working with the Board to amplify the organisation’s vision, further elevate its profile, and confidently lead ACEL into its next phase of growth and impact.
Working closely with and reporting directly to the Board, the CEO is responsible and accountable for the development and sustainability of the organisation for its members. This includes strong stakeholder management as well as having oversight of membership engagement strategies, leadership events, professional development programs, governance and business finance. In addition to supporting the Board, the CEO leads a strong national office team and works with ACEL’s Branch Presidents and Executives in each state/territory to enhance ACEL’s profile within each region.
As ACEL’s Chief Executive Officer, you will:
* In collaboration with the President, enable the Board to fulfil its governance function, including developing and implementing the strategic plan
* Provide visionary leadership and direction towards the achievements of ACEL philosophy, mission and strategy
* Build and manage relationships with a range of stakeholders including Australian and international educational leaders, government, educational providers and educational professionals
* Develop and deliver high quality events, programs and resources to the education community
* Ensure appropriate governance and effective risk management processes are in place
* Identify opportunities to increase revenue through new income streams and membership
* Provide effective leadership, inspire a sense of purpose and drive collaboration across the business and act as an advocate to promote the organisation.
Selection criteria
The successful candidate will demonstrate:
* Strong business acumen with demonstrated senior management experience in the education field, not for profit or related sectors
* Experience in leading and motivating a team through organisational, cultural change
* Efficient communication across all levels, fostering open lines of communication within the organisation to ensure transparency with staff and the Board, while building and maintaining effective relationship with key external stakeholders
* Ability to analyse and articulate complex policy issues and communicate strategies to influence a wide and diverse audience
* Understanding of corporate governance including human resources, finance and administration
