About the role:

This role plays a key part in supporting safe, effective, and person-centred medication management across the hospital.

Key responsibilities include:

- Delivering clinical pharmacy services and providing expert advice to medical, nursing, and allied health staff

- Contributing to patient care plans by reviewing medication therapy and promoting evidence-based best practice

- Supporting medication safety initiatives and ensuring compliance with Pharmacy Board of Australia standards and relevant legislation

- Collaborating effectively with the multidisciplinary care team to ensure safe and integrated healthcare delivery

Tomaree Community Hospital supports new staff with on-the-job orientation, a one-on-one handover from the outgoing pharmacist, access to NSW Health clinical networks and professional development, plus ongoing guidance from management to ensure confidence and growth in the role.

Where you’ll be working:

Tomaree Community Hospital is a modern regional facility located in Nelson Bay, within the picturesque Port Stephens area of New South Wales. The hospital provides essential services to the local community, including general medical care, emergency care, and palliative care. It plays a vital role in supporting residents of the Tomaree Peninsula and surrounding areas by delivering accessible, community-focused healthcare.

The hospital features a contemporary design with a strong emphasis on patient comfort and family involvement. Staff work within a multidisciplinary team environment, collaborating across units to provide holistic, person-centred care. About you:

The successful candidate will hold current registration with the Pharmacy Board of Australia and bring demonstrated clinical pharmacy experience within a hospital setting. A high level of accuracy and attention to detail is essential, particularly when reviewing medication charts and managing prescriptions.

Strong communication and interpersonal skills are required to collaborate effectively with the multidisciplinary care team and to engage with patients in a professional and supportive manner. The role also demands the ability to work well within a collaborative, team-based environment, along with a clear commitment to professionalism, patient safety, and always maintaining confidentiality.

While a solid foundation in clinical pharmacy is essential, we are committed to supporting the successful applicant in developing familiarity with local hospital systems, site-specific procedures, and relevant software through structured onboarding and ongoing support.

Requirements:

- Registered as a practising pharmacist with the Australian Health Practitioner Regulation Agency (AHPRA) with at least 3 years post registration clinical skills/experience (to be eligible for appointment as Grade 2 Pharmacist.
- Eligible to drive in NSW and the ability to travel to all HNE facilities as determined by the needs of the role.
- Ability to participate in the after-hours on-call roster.
- Ability to work periodic planned overtime to undertake testing and upgrades.

Additional Information:

- To be eligible for employment in this position you must be an Australian Citizen, or permanent resident of Australia, or a New Zealand citizen with a current New Zealand Passport, or hold an appropriate visa that allows you to live and work in Australia. Employment of a temporary visa holder will only be offered in line with the conditions and expiry date of your visa.
