Your role at St John of God Murdoch Hospital
As a Procedural Clinical Nurse, you will join our Ophthalmic Team within the Surgicentre at SJG Health Care Murdoch. In this role, you will deliver a high standard of patient-centred care, act as a clinical resource for the team, and effectively manage clinical resources to ensure safe, efficient, and high-quality patient outcomes.
Our Surgicentre is a specialist, standalone day hospital offering a range of medical and surgical services. It has been purpose-built to meet the growing demand for day surgery, providing a convenient and popular alternative to an overnight stay in a private hospital.
You will be working with an experienced Ophthalmology Team who cover all aspects of eye care, including eye tests and screening for eye diseases, medical treatment, laser treatment, complex microsurgery and research.
This Procedural Clinical Nurse position will be offered on a permanent part-time basis, working 35 hours per week, commencing in the New Year. Those with Ophthalmic experience are encouraged to apply.
The Position
* Supervise nursing practice and take responsibility for standard of nursing care delivered.
* Act as a clinical resource, maintain and develop clinical skills relevant to area of practice.
* Initiate review and coordinate care of patients with complex health problems.
* Serve as a patient advocate, protecting the rights and safety of patients at all times.
* Evaluate the quality of nursing practice and participate in quality improvement initiatives to improve patient outcomes.
* Ensure the correct use and care of all hospital equipment by self and colleagues.
* Actively contribute to the development of clinical policies and procedures in Ophthalmology.
* Ensure documentation meets hospital standards and legal requirements.
* Deputise for the Nurse Manager as required.
* Prioritise departmental workloads using resources appropriately and cost effectively.
* Coordinate the department effectively ensuring continuity of care, taking action on problems encountered.
* Participate in the performance management of caregivers in conjunction with the Nurse Manager.
* Participate in and takes responsibility for the education of other caregivers by conducting formal and informal teaching sessions.
* Assist in developing, implementing and reviewing specific departmental orientation programs with Nurse Manager, act as a preceptor as required.
* Organise own work and assist colleagues to complete all care duties by end of shift.
* Supervise the practice of Registered Nurses, Enrolled Nurses and Patient Care Assistants.
You will have demonstrated strong leadership ability, working collaboratively in a multi-disciplinary environment with well-developed skills in communication, conflict resolution, negotiation and problem solving.
To succeed you will hold registration with the Nursing and Midwifery Board of Australia as a Registered Nurse, relevant post registration and experience in Ophthalmology.

* Salary: $109,599 to $115,682 per annum, pro rata for part-time, plus 12% superannuation
