Role Summary
Software Engineering Delivery Manager – responsible for leading a team of software developers, business analysts, QA, and engineering to deliver new product development, enhancements, and implementation projects for Airline clients. The manager will oversee delivery, ensure Agile and AI SDLC practices, and provide architectural and technical direction.
Works in a hybrid in-office (Brisbane office) and virtual environment. Provides workspace, equipment, remote access, and formal hands‑on training.
Responsibilities
* Develop an in‑depth understanding of existing systems, processes, and future requirements to make recommendations for improvement.
* Interact with director or higher-level management and stakeholders, communicating effectively through oral and written presentations.
* Work directly with business units to understand requirements for application development and enhancements.
* Lead development and implementation of projects from beginning to completion on time and within budget.
* Help develop metrics to measure efficiencies before and after new tools or processes implementation.
* Research software systems to understand existing functionalities and impact of potential changes.
* Collaborate with teams and validate that all necessary requirements have been fulfilled.
* Participate and lead day‑to‑day activities of implementation teams, including staff oversight, Agile ceremonies, software design sessions, etc.
* Take ownership of projects, work closely with business stakeholders, and fine‑tune requirements.
* Lead technical discussions, collaborate with architects, and provide architectural and technical direction to development teams.
* Lead engineering teams from the frontlines, remove roadblocks, and adhere to Agile practices.
* Proactively identify system improvement opportunities, embrace innovation, and continuous improvement.
* Review code to ensure adherence to coding standards, security best practices, test coverage, and maintainability.
* Ensure implementation of modern DevOps practices, including CI/CD pipelines, automated testing, and infrastructure as code.
* Own delivery execution for software initiatives, ensuring high-quality releases aligned with business timelines and product roadmaps.
* Develop and manage detailed project delivery plans, including sprint planning, dependency management, risk mitigation, and resource allocation.
* Collaborate with Cloud/Platform teams to optimize application performance, scalability, monitoring, and reliability in cloud environments (e.g., AWS, Azure, or GCP).
* Coordinate with Architecture, Security, QA, and DevOps teams to ensure consistent design patterns, security compliance, and deployment standards.
* Track and improve engineering metrics such as deployment frequency, defect rates, system reliability, and lead time for changes.
* Identify and mitigate technical debt while focusing on long‑term platform scalability.
* Foster a culture of ownership, continuous improvement, and engineering excellence.
Qualifications & Skills
* Bachelor's degree in Computer Science or related field or equivalent experience.
* 7+ years of hands‑on experience in software engineering, with at least 2 years of people & project management experience.
* Strong full‑stack technical background, hands‑on coding experience with Java/Spring Boot or similar, Angular/React, iOS (Swift/SwiftUI or similar), and cloud‑native platforms.
* Experience developing scalable, secure, and high‑performance solutions leveraging cloud‑native principles (microservices, containerization, APIs, event‑driven architecture).
* Experience with designing and developing RESTful APIs, authentication/authorization (OAuth, JWT), and observability (logging, metrics, tracing).
* Experience preparing and presenting design diagrams.
* Project and team management skills, deep experience with Scrum and Kanban practices.
* Demonstrated ability to communicate and interact with a wide range of users from technical to non‑technical.
* Proven excellence in driving projects to implementation on time and within budget.
* Strong critical thinking, problem‑solving, and decision‑making skills.
* Ability to multi‑task, work independently and collaboratively with high attention to detail, and adapt to changing customer service needs.
