Sandfire is a global copper producer of significance and continues to make strong progress toward its goal of being a sustainable mining company. Headquartered in Perth, Western Australia, one of Sandfire’s principal operating assets is the Motheo Copper Operations (Motheo) in Botswana.

Motheo is located in the central portion of the Kalahari Copper Belt in Botswana. The Motheo operations include the T3 and A4 open‑pit mines, as well as the A1 development project. Motheo produces a high‑quality copper concentrate (containing a silver by‑product) from its centralised processing facility, which is transported by truck to Walvis Bay, Namibia, for shipping to smelters around the world.

Job Overview

We are currently seeking an experienced Senior Maintenance Planner with robust expertise in the PRONTO ERP system to join our Motheo site team on a FIFO roster with a 6‑weeks‑on, 3‑weeks‑off schedule and the flexibility of point of hire from anywhere in Australia.

The position is responsible for providing leadership, direction, and technical specialist expertise in the planning, scheduling, and optimisation of maintenance activities through the Pronto Computerised Maintenance Management System (CMMS ).

The role acts as the site authority on Pronto CMMS, ensuring that all maintenance planning, execution, and reporting functions are effectively integrated within the system. It requires coordination with the Mechanical Superintendent, Maintenance teams, and IT to develop, expand, and fully utilise Pronto’s capabilities for improved maintenance performance, reliability, and cost control.

Responsibilities

- Act as the Pronto CMMS subject‑matter expert (SME) for the site, responsible for the configuration, administration, and continuous improvement of the system.
- Develop and implement maintenance strategies, PM schedules, and work‑management processes within Pronto.
- Lead initiatives to expand Pronto’s functionality across modules (Work Management, Preventive Maintenance, Inventory, Procurement, and Costing).
- Create and maintain custom reports, dashboards, and KPIs to track maintenance performance, costs, and compliance.
- Conduct regular audits of data integrity and maintenance history within Pronto to ensure accuracy and completeness.
- Drive workflow automation and process integration to enhance efficiency between Maintenance, Operations, and Supply Chain functions.

Maintenance Planning and Scheduling

- Develop, review, and optimise short‑, medium‑, and long‑term maintenance schedules using Pronto CMMS.
- Plan and schedule preventive, corrective, and project maintenance activities to minimise downtime and optimise resource utilisation.
- Ensure work orders, job plans, and resource requirements are well‑defined, costed, and aligned with operational priorities.
- Audit planning for major jobs, ensuring correct part ordering, material availability, and crew assignment prior to execution.
- Prepare and manage shutdown and preservation schedules, ensuring alignment with operational and safety requirements.
- Analyse maintenance plans upon introduction of new equipment and adjust workload and resources accordingly.

Preventive Maintenance Compliance

- Review and revise maintenance strategies to address safety, reliability, and criticality priorities.
- Conduct regular compliance audits, variance analyses, and performance reviews using CMMS data.
- Maintain ownership of the maintenance‑history database and ensure it reflects accurate maintenance activity records.
- Provide detailed monthly planning and performance reports to the Maintenance Superintendent.
- Investigate accidents, incidents, and near‑misses related to maintenance activities and ensure corrective actions are implemented.

Qualifications

- Mechanical Engineering Diploma / Degree or equivalent.
- Knowledge of relevant codes, standards, and regulations.
- Pronto certification or equivalent proven experience in Pronto CMMS system is essential.
- Minimum 10 years’ experience in the maintenance planning field.
- Well experienced in reliability‑centred maintenance programmes with proven expertise in Pronto CMMS administration and system optimisation (mining or heavy‑industrial environment preferred).
- In‑depth knowledge of maintenance management principles, asset lifecycle management, and work‑management processes.
- Effective verbal and written communication skills.
- Strong leadership skills to manage performance and coordinate with various stakeholders.
