We are currently recruiting for a Network Risk Manager to join our team. This role can be based anywhere within our operational footprint.
This role will provide technical leadership and oversight of network risk practices across Essential Energy's asset portfolio, ensuring risk‑informed decision‑making is embedded into asset management, operational delivery and investment planning.
The Network Risk Manager leads a team of risk engineering professionals and works closely with asset managers, engineers, operational leaders and corporate risk functions to ensure alignment with regulatory requirements, organisational risk appetite and asset management objectives.
This role also plays a key part in supporting regulatory outcomes, network resilience, and continuous improvement of risk frameworks, tools and methodologies.
Key Responsibilities
* Lead the development, implementation and continuous improvement of network risk management and risk engineering frameworks, tools and methodologies
* Provide expert technical advice on risk identification, assessment, quantification and mitigation across engineering disciplines and asset classes
* Collaborate with asset managers, engineering teams and operational leaders to embed risk considerations into planning, design, maintenance and investment decision‑making
* Oversee the development and application of risk models and simulations to support forecasting, investment planning and regulatory submissions
* Monitor and report on emerging risks, regulatory changes and industry trends, ensuring proactive risk management and compliance
* Lead, coach and develop a high‑performing team of risk engineers, fostering a culture of continuous improvement, collaboration and innovation
* Represent Essential Energy in industry forums, regulatory consultations and technical working groups relating to risk, network performance and resilience
* Support enterprise risk management initiatives in collaboration with the Corporate Risk team
* Promote and demonstrate behaviours that support safety, ethical conduct, respect, equity, diversity and inclusion
About You
You are an experienced risk or engineering professional with a strong background in utilities or infrastructure and a passion for practical, value‑adding risk management.
You bring a strategic mindset, advanced analytical capability and the ability to influence outcomes across complex stakeholder environments. You are comfortable leading technical teams, translating complex data into insights, and supporting sound decision‑making at all levels of the organisation.
Required Qualifications
* Bachelor Degree in Electrical Engineering, Risk Management, or demonstrated equivalent capability through relevant qualifications and experience
Desirable Qualifications
* Postgraduate qualifications in Business Management, Economics or Statistical Analysis
* Membership, or eligibility for membership, of a relevant professional body (e.g. Engineers Australia or the Risk Management Institute of Australasia)
* Asset Management credentials
Experience and Skills
* Extensive experience in engineering or risk management roles within utilities or infrastructure environments
* Demonstrated experience leading risk engineering initiatives across complex asset portfolios
* Proven experience developing and implementing risk frameworks, models and tools
* Experience engaging with regulators and supporting compliance and regulatory submissions
* Strong leadership experience managing multidisciplinary technical teams
* Advanced analytical, modelling and problem‑solving skills, including probabilistic analysis and scenario planning
* Excellent stakeholder engagement and communication skills, with the ability to influence both technical and non‑technical audiences
* High‑level technical writing and presentation skills
* Strong knowledge of ISO 31000 and a practical, outcome‑focused approach to risk management
