About the Opportunity
As Director, IT Operations, you will lead the strategic design and delivery of the University's core infrastructure, hybrid cloud platforms, and enterprise network services. This role is pivotal in ensuring the performance, scalability, and security of foundational IT platforms. Your leadership will directly support Western's world-class teaching, research, and digital experience.
You will oversee a high-performing technical team and collaborate across Digital Services to ensure secure, scalable, and resilient IT operations. With a strong focus on innovation, automation, and continuous improvement, this role is key to enabling Western's digital transformation and long-term growth.
Key Responsibilities
The Director, IT Operations, will be responsible for:
* Defining and delivering the infrastructure and networking roadmap.
* Leading hybrid cloud and on-premise lifecycle management.
* Embedding cybersecurity, compliance, and disaster recovery strategies.
* Managing vendors, contracts, and operational budgets.
* Championing Enterprise Service Management platform (e.g. ServiceNow) and IaC practices.
* Representing IT Operations at executive and University-wide forums.
This is a full time, fixed-term appointment for 5 years. The appointment will be based at Western's Hawkesbury or Parramatta South campus, although travel to other campuses of the University may be required. Please review the position description for further information.
About You
You are a strategic, future-focused IT leader with the capability to manage complex, enterprise-scale technology environments. You bring deep technical expertise, proven leadership in high-stakes settings, and a passion for continuous improvement.
To be successful in this role, you will have:
* Postgraduate qualifications in IT, Engineering, or a related field.
* Extensive experience managing enterprise infrastructure across hybrid cloud and on-prem environments.
* Demonstrated success in leading technical teams to deliver high-availability, secure services.
* Expertise in network design, disaster recovery, and business continuity.
* Strong commercial acumen, with experience overseeing vendor performance and contracts.
* Proficiency in Azure, AWS, ServiceNow, Infrastructure as Code, and DevSecOps.
* In-depth knowledge of cybersecurity integration and enterprise governance frameworks.
* Exceptional communication and stakeholder engagement skills, with the ability to influence at all levels.
