Overview

Nilsen is a national, family owned business founded in 1916, servicing the electrical industry with a focus on Service, Reliability and Quality. The Switchboard Manufacturing facility is located in Ferryden Park, South Australia and serves internal and external customers Australia wide. As the Switchboard Manufacturing operations grow, Nilsen seeks applicants for Electrical Tradespersons and Trades Assistants to join the team.

The workshop offers a secure and reliable work environment with the potential for overtime. The facility has been upgraded with new manufacturing plant and equipment to support continued growth.

Electrical Tradesperson – responsibilities

The Electrical Tradesperson reports to the Supervisor and performs activities required for the construction of switchboards. Responsibilities may include:

- Installing electrical devices such as Air Circuit Breakers and Current Transformers
- Assembling busbars and mechanical supports for electrical equipment
- Installing control wiring within the switchboard assembly
- Assembling switchboard modules including power and control wiring
- Conducting quality assurance tests of completed units
- Using detailed design information to assist with the manufacturing process

Note: This is a workshop-based role with the potential for overtime. The work environment is described as comfortable and not physically demanding.

Electrical Tradesperson – qualifications

- A Class Electrical licence (other relevant licences/qualifications may be considered)
- Ability to interpret general arrangement and schematic drawings
- Demonstrated experience in control wiring
- Manufacturing experience in electrical equipment is preferred but not essential
- Leadership qualities or aspirations are encouraged
- Ability to work as part of a team or autonomously
- Pride in work; commitment to quality and avoiding rework
- Polite, courteous, punctual and compliant with Nilsen policies
- Safe work attitude and adherence to workshop safety requirements
- Competent with hand tools (e.g., air-operated tools, torque wrenches) and interpreting assembly drawings
- Trade-qualified workers or those with experience in other manufacturing fields encouraged to apply

Electrical Trades Assistant – responsibilities

Trades Assistants work under the direction of a Leading Hand and assist with the assembly of switchboards. Responsibilities may include:

- Physically erecting switchboard structures
- Installing mechanical and electrical components within switchboards
- Assembling busbars and busbar supports
- Assisting Electrical Tradesperson with electrical activities
- Operating machines to produce components for switchboards
- Preparing a switchboard for dispatch (splitting, cleaning, packing and loading)

Electrical Trades Assistant – qualifications

- Able to interpret general arrangement drawings used in switchboard assembly
- Ability to work as part of a team or autonomously
- Polite, courteous and punctual; positive attitude to safety and compliance with policies
- Experience in a manufacturing environment is helpful
