Primary objective

Provide professional leadership and direction in strengthening child and family welfare practice capability and develop a culture of practice excellence through ongoing quality improvement activities.


Key duties and responsibilities

* Conduct internal practice audits, intensive case reviews, to assess practice against legislation, policies, procedures, and practice standards.
* Collect and analyse practice information to identify thematic practice trends and issues.
* Contribute professional practice expertise to influence continuous improvement in care and protection and youth justice practice.
* Identify, develop, and implement innovative solutions to continuously improve practice and address issues impacting on the attainment of desired client and corporate outcomes.
* Implement professional development strategies and activities, including mentoring, coaching, and training, to address identified needs.
* Participate in welfare group activities aligned to Departmental responsibilities under the Emergency Management Act.
* Travel approximately two weeks per month to Alice Springs to provide support to the Central Australia region.


Selection criteria – Essential

* A degree from an Australian tertiary institution that gives eligibility for membership of the Australian Community Workers Association, the Australian Association of Social Workers, or the Australian Psychological Society, or equivalent; OR Diploma of Child, Youth and Family Intervention AND Vocational Graduate Certificate in Community Services Practice (Statutory Child Protection); OR Graduate Certificate in Safe Communities (Child Protection).
* Sound knowledge and understanding of legislation, policies, procedures, practice frameworks, and issues relating to the provision of child protection and youth justice services, and the ability to apply that knowledge.
* Proven ability to review complex case decisions, analyse information, problem solve and develop evidence-based recommendations.
* Demonstrated high‑level oral, written, and interpersonal communication skills, including the ability to effectively negotiate outcomes, manage conflict, and build and maintain effective working relationships with internal and external stakeholders.
* Demonstrated ability to review and develop systems, processes, and programs/services to address identified needs.
