School Overview
Belmont High School is a comprehensive, co‐educational secondary school located in the eastern suburbs of Lake Macquarie. The school was established as the first high school outside of Newcastle in 1953 and draws its enrolments from the Belmont, Belmont North, Floraville and Jewells communities. Belmont High School is a proud member of the Belmont Learning Community and Minimbah AECG, working in partnership to improve student outcomes. In 2025, the school recorded 852 students, including 131 Aboriginal students and 7 Inclusive Education classes.
Role Overview
Teaching Science at Belmont High School, including Science, Investigating Science, Physics and Chemistry across Years 7‐12, supporting the enrichment stream in Years 7‐10 and the Senior Learning Hub that provides day‐to‐day support for students in completion of assessment tasks and study.
Responsibilities
Deliver engaging science lessons, support students in assessment, maintain wellbeing practices, foster high expectations, and collaborate with the Science faculty to build positive relationships with students, parents and the wider community. Support students in accessing school‐based apprenticeships, traineeships and post‐school pathways.
Qualifications & Selection Criteria
* Approval to teach Science, Investigating Science, Physics and Chemistry with knowledge of assessment, curriculum and reporting requirements.
* Demonstrated ability to use effective classroom management skills and wellbeing practices to create a learning environment that is engaging and fosters a culture of high expectations.
* Strong communication and interpersonal skills with a demonstrated ability to work collaboratively in the Science faculty and build positive relationships with students, parents and the wider community.
Conditions
An unconditional full approval to teach is a requirement. If you do not hold a full approval to teach with the NSW Department of Education, you are required to commence the application process at the same time as you apply for this teaching opportunity.
