The Energy and Resources Decision Support and Customer Specialist (DSCS), under the direction of the Energy Sector Lead or Resources Sector Lead, and as part of the broader Energy and Resources team, is responsible for:
a) providing specialist meteorology, hydrology, and climatology decision support to specific customers, and
b) developing and maintaining relationships with customers in the energy, resources, and telecommunication sectors, and
c) shaping and driving solution development to deliver impact and value for our customers.
The role requires technical expertise, advanced customer engagement skills, and professionalism to be a trusted advisor to the customer, often embedded within their operations. By working closely with the customer, the DSCS gains deep sector insight to guide innovation and service development to enhance the Bureau's offering for the customer and sector at-large.
A solid understanding of the energy, resources and/or telecommunications sectors, atmospheric science, and operational forecasting is essential to be successful in this role. The DSCS supports effective decision-making in relation to weather, water, and climate, responds to evolving customer requirements, and pursues opportunities proactively to enhance our customers' effectiveness and productivity.
The DSCS works closely with other Energy and Resources team members to ensure customer requirements are being met. Direct customer decision support comprises approximately 50% of the DSCS's time, with the remaining time dedicated to customer engagement, service development, internal liaison, and professional development. Occasional out-of-hours work will be required to support customer operations.
