About the Role:
Reporting to the Head of Finance, you will play a key role in supporting two rail sites with end‐to‐end leadership of their procurement, inventory, warehouse, logistics and customer service activities.
This position will see you take ownership of an existing team of stores, purchasing and procurement personnel, responsible for ensuring parts and inventory is current and up to date and providing parts and products to the maintenance teams across the business.
The role will suit you if you enjoy a role where no 2 days are the same. Although structured at times, the role also comes with a range of reactive responsibilities which are critical to ensure the business can perform at the level expected, and deliver the required outcomes to its customers. It will suit an individual that understands the criticality of "no stock".
Key Responsibilities:
* Inventory & Demand Planning: Oversee inventory management, set optimal stock levels, and manage overall inventory valuation to support maintenance and project requirements.
* Logistics & Transportation: Develop and maintain domestic and international freight and transportation systems, ensuring compliance with hazardous materials and regulatory obligations.
* Procurement Strategy: Establish sourcing and procurement strategies for materials, rotables, and consumables, optimising quality, cost, and delivery performance.
* Supplier & Contract Management: Select, evaluate, and manage suppliers and contractors; negotiate agreements; monitor supplier performance against KPIs and contractual metrics.
* Financial & Budget Control: Develop purchasing forecasts, manage departmental budgets, and provide financial monitoring and recommendations.
* Operational Support: Create scheduling and supply methods to align supplier deliveries with in‐house assembly, maintenance, and overhaul demands.
* Team Leadership: Lead and develop procurement/logistics staff, manage performance, resource planning, engagement, and leave scheduling.
* Continuous Improvement & Compliance: Drive process optimisation, technology adoption, and efficiency improvements while ensuring adherence to safety, environmental, and quality standards.
What You'll Need:
* Demonstratable Supply Chain, Procurement or Purchasing experience within an Engineering, Maintenance or Manufacturing environment.
* Ability to pass Rail Medical and Drug & Alcohol Screen.
* Previous leadership experience, ideally of a team of 5+ people.
* Competent in the use of Microsoft Office 365 and its associated programs to facilitate reports and investigations.
* Previous ERP Systems experience (Maximo beneficial, not essential). Ideally within Inventory control, including configuration and de‐configuration within an ERP environment.
* Strong supplier management / negotiation skills.
* Strong interpersonal and communication skills with the ability to influence and engage stakeholders at all levels.
* Proven ability to foster and drive a positive culture. Be able to make difficult decisions to maintain this culture.
* Accountability, reliability, and strong attention to detail.
