The Biogeochemistry and Microbiology Team within CSIRO Energy is seeking an enthusiastic Research Technician to join the team. In this role, you will undertake, support and facilitate scientific activities with other research staff, by assisting with maintenance, upkeep, and ongoing experiments (establishing, being conducted) by multiple scientists from multiple groups within CSIRO Energy and CSIRO Minerals Resources at the Kensington site.
The laboratory is uniquely positioned due to its provision of significant gas-reticulation infrastructure and instrumentation, which it delivers to a range of Energy business unit projects, along with projects in the Minerals business unit.

**Your duties will include**:
- Maintain gas supply, organise and order gases and other chemicals and organize maintenance of safety systems as required by the Laboratory Custodian.
- Implement existing methods, perform instrument maintenance, schedule and organize technicians as required for more significant instrument servicing or software updates and licensing as required by the Laboratory Custodian.
- Maintain chemical inventory for this laboratory, organize labelling, chemalert compliance and internal safety compliance for these chemicals. Organize and dispose of chemicals no longer required for operation as required by the Laboratory Custodian.
- Assist research scientists, engineers and others in the laboratory in their work in the wet chemistry or instrument laboratory, particularly in the development and testing of new technologies (e.g. subsurface contaminants, hydrogen sensing, CO2 monitoring and verification).
- Implement instrument methods for sample testing.
- Maintain calibration and testing regimes for key instrumentation.
- Operate laboratory information systems and standardized testing sample receipt, testing and invoicing.
- Other duties as directed.

**To be considered you will need**:
**_ Essential_**
- A relevant Bachelor degree in Science majoring in Chemistry or equivalent relevant work experience in a similar field.
- Experience in laboratory environments and with laboratory safety
- Experience with analytical chemistry instrumentation
- Experience with a range of wet chemistry techniques
- Demonstrated strong interpersonal communication skills to create and facilitate positive, collegial relationships.
- Hold a current unrestricted, Australian driver's license.
- Demonstrated experience with a range of chemicals and their safe handling.
**_Desirable_**
- Experience with mass spectrometry.
- Exposure to geological or biological (particularly microbiology) sciences would be an advantage
- Experience undertaking field work in remote locations would be valuable.
- Experience with reticulated gas in laboratories and associated gas safety systems would be beneficial.
