The Opportunity
We are seeking a highly skilledand motivated Senior Vehicle Inspector to join the Department forInfrastructure and Transport's statewide inspection team.
This is a unique opportunity to apply your advanced technicalexpertise in a role that directly contributes to road safety andvehicle compliance across South Australia.
As aSenior Vehicle Inspector, you will be responsible for conductingand overseeing detailed inspections of heavy and light vehicles,buses, and Special Purpose Vehicles.
You will audit mandatorymaintenance schedules, assess third-party inspection facilities,and ensure compliance with legislative standards, Design Rules, andrelevant Codes of Practice.
Operating under broad direction, youwill exercise significant discretion and judgement in identifyingvehicle faults, applying appropriate controls, and advising onnecessary actions.
Your role will also involve providing experttechnical advice to internal stakeholders, SAPOL, other governmentagencies, and industry operators.
You will lead regional assessments,manage inspection outcomes, and engage in conflict resolution withprofessionalism and clarity.
With proven experience in technicalreporting, you may also be called upon to act as an expertwitness.
About you
You are a highly capable mechanicwith a strong background in vehicle repair and maintenance.
Workingunder limited direction, you apply sound discipline knowledge tomanage technical and quality assurance requirements, producingclear and effective reports, correspondence and solutions tocomplex operational challenges.
You bring creativity and specialistexpertise to your work, supported by contemporary knowledge ofindustry trends, risks, and relevant government programs andpolicies.
You demonstrate high-level skills in technical andoperational programs, with an understanding of the legislation andregulations that govern quality and risk management.
With excellent communication skills,you engage professionally and tactfully with a wide range ofstakeholders.
You are confident in negotiating outcomes, resolvingcomplex issues, and presenting information clearly to support the successful delivery of large-scale field programs.
Educational Qualifications / Licenses
Qualified Light or Heavy Vehicle Mechanic trade with a minimum 3-year posttrade experience.
Special Conditions
A National Police Check (NPC) is required prior to employment in the Department forInfrastructure and Transport which must be renewed every three years.
A Working with Children Check (WWCC) is required prior to employment with the Department for Infrastructure and Transport, which must be renewed every five years before expiry.
A current driver's licence for class car is required and hold or be prepared to obtain a HR licence.
The location is at Kateena Street, Regency Park or Murray Bridge and there will be a requirement to wear the Agency's uniform.
Hours of work are 152 over a four-week period.
Some out of hours and weekend work, along with some intra / interstate travel requiring overnight stays, may be required.
