**Position Information**:
The Suspension Centre provides an intervention for students on suspension who have been identified by their school as likely to benefit from a structured program to assist with a successful return to their school as soon as possible. The Suspension Centre services schools in the Port Stephens Network and is located within the grounds of Irrawang High School. The centre caters for up to 6 students who have been placed on suspension or a formal caution from Years 5 to 10 and is managed under the auspices of the Irrawang High School executive. Students will remain the responsibility of the census school and robust links will be maintained throughout the period of attendance at the Suspension Centre. The Return to School Centre is part of the positive behaviour supports and strategies available to support students. Students may be referred to their census school principal if their behaviour does not meet the census school's PBL values and expectations.
**Selection Criteria**:
Applicants must satisfy the teacher training and academic qualification requirements for this position. In addition to the general selection criteria,
1. Ability to effectively case manage students with complex needs, to set and attain goals towards positive behaviour change within school and the broader community
2. Demonstrated ability to effectively engage with and work alongside families and students from culturally diverse backgrounds including, but not limited to, Aboriginal and Torres Strait Islander students and communities
3.Commitment to working collaboratively with schools to write effective, individualised support plans to ensure successful transition pathways
4.Capacity to support the teacher and other support staff to develop meaningful connections with students and foster re-engagement with education
**General Selection Criteria**:
1. Successful teaching experience with capacity to initiate improvement in teaching, learning and classroom practice
2. Knowledge of curriculum, assessment and student welfare with the ability to lead and design quality, inclusive teaching and learning programs
3. Educational leadership skills to build the capacity and manage the performance of individuals and teams
4. Well developed communication and interpersonal skills with the capacity to build relationships and engage students, staff and parents
5. Ability to plan and manage resources effectively and equitably to support teaching and learning
6. Knowledge of and commitment to the Department's Aboriginal education policies
