Rings up merchandise, totals bill, accepts payments and makes changes for customers in thrift store by performing the following duties.Essential FunctionsProcess merchandise efficiently following the standards set by the Store ManagerPricing unmarked items of merchandiseHang clothing as instructedStock racks, shelves, counters or tables with merchandiseClean shelves, counters or tablesRing up purchases for customersOperate cash register, accepting payment and making changeWrap or bag merchandise for customersHelp set up displays and arranges merchandise to promote salesMaintain good customer relations by giving prompt, courteous assistance to customersFollow through on rotating and outdating merchandiseInsure proper use of assigned equipmentAssure that the building and grounds are kept clean of trash and donated itemsMaintain and clean restrooms, foyer, trash, windows and floorsReport complaints, damages and concern to managementSupport the mission of The Salvation ArmyOther duties as assigned by the thrift store manager or corps officerMinimum QualificationsEducation: High School diploma or GED preferred.Experience: Retail experience is preferred but not requiredCertifications/Licenses: NoneSkills/AbilitiesAbility to effectively present information in one-on-one situation to customers, clients and other employeesAbility to use basic office equipment including cash register, copy machine, fax machine and telephoneAbility to add and subtract, multiply and divide numbersAbility to perform operations using units of American moneyAbility to understand and carry out instructions furnished in written, oral, diagram or schedule formAbility to work in a team environmentSupervisory Responsibility: NonePhysical Requirements: Include, speaking, hearing and vision; excellent manual dexterity; lifting, pulling and pushing of materials up to 30 pounds; bending, squatting and walking; standing up to 8 hours per day.Travel: NoneDriving: NoneWorking Conditions: Work is performed in a typical retail store environment.All employees recognize that The Salvation Army is a church and agree that they will do nothing as an employee of The Salvation Army to undermine its religious mission.The Salvation Army Mission: The Salvation Army, an international movement, is an evangelical part of the universal Christian church.
