Deputy Director-General, Corporate, Performance and Delivery
About the Organisation
The Department of the Environment, Tourism, Science and Innovation (DETSI) plays a central role in shaping Queensland's environmental sustainability, tourism growth, scientific advancement and innovation agenda. The department operates in a high-profile policy and delivery environment, supporting government priorities that influence communities, industry and economic development across the State.
With over 3,100 employees and an annual budget exceeding $1.4 billion, DETSI delivers complex programs and partnerships across government, industry and the community. The Corporate, Performance and Delivery division sits at the centre of this work, ensuring the systems, governance, people and performance frameworks required for successful delivery are aligned and operating effectively across the enterprise.
This appointment represents an opportunity to shape how the department delivers on its strategic commitments by strengthening enterprise alignment, performance discipline and organisational capability.
About the Role
This is not a traditional corporate services role. The portfolio has been deliberately designed to strengthen organisational cadence, assurance and execution across the department, ensuring enabling functions operate as integrated, system-level contributors rather than siloed service areas. A key focus of the role is elevating the impact, visibility and strategic value of corporate services across the department and the broader public sector through a cohesive and influential communications approach.
Reporting to the Director-General, the Deputy Director-General, Corporate, Performance and Delivery is a critical enterprise leadership role responsible for enabling delivery of the department's strategic plan and government commitments. The role leads a broad portfolio including People and Culture, Legal, Finance, Governance and Assurance, Digital and Information Services, Communications and Public Engagement, and Enterprise Performance and Delivery, with an emphasis on ensuring these functions are positioned as strategic enablers that drive clarity, alignment and organisational performance.
Working closely with the Executive Leadership Team, you will:
* Drive organisational success by aligning corporate functions to deliver Government commitments and goals.
* Enhance performance frameworks by ensuring robust governance, risk, and compliance to deliver impactful outcomes.
* Provide trusted strategic advice to the Director-General and executive leaders.
* Lift organisational capability and consistency without introducing unnecessary bureaucracy.
* Strengthen strategic communications across the department and wider public sector, ensuring clear, consistent and influential messaging that elevates the role and impact of corporate services internally and externally.
* Support a high performing culture aligned to public sector values and expectations.
* Ensure governance, risk and compliance frameworks provide confidence on delivery and outcomes.
Success in the role will be reflected in stronger enterprise alignment, clearer accountability for delivery and a reset of corporate services as a strategic enabler of departmental performance.
About You
You are an experienced executive leader who has operated at enterprise level within complex, multi-stakeholder organisations. You bring a strong delivery mindset, balanced with sound judgement, cultural leadership and the ability to influence across senior executive peers.
You will demonstrate:
* A proven track record leading broad enabling or corporate portfolios within large, complex organisations
* Experience establishing operating models, performance frameworks or enterprise delivery disciplines
* Strong executive judgement and the ability to balance governance rigour with organisational agility
* Credibility as a trusted adviser to CEOs, Director-Generals or Boards
* The ability to influence and align executive stakeholders toward shared outcomes
* Experience leading cultural and workforce uplift in complex environments
* Strategic digital and data literacy, with a focus on practical enablement rather than technical delivery
You are comfortable operating in high profile environments, bringing clarity, structure and alignment while maintaining momentum and engagement across the organisation.
