About the Role: Course Coordinator / Discipline Co-Leader– Bentley Campus
The School of Design and Built Environment (DBE) at Curtin University invites applications for a Senior Lecturer in Architecture who will provide academic leadership as Course Coordinator and Discipline Co-Leader, based at the Bentley campus in Perth.
Architecture at DBE is grounded in socially engaged design practice, design-led research, and a strong commitment to Country-led and Indigenous-informed approaches. Teaching and research are shaped by critical questions of housing equity, climate responsiveness, cultural accountability, and ethical practice. Studios and research projects are developed through genuine collaboration with communities, industry, and Indigenous partners, embedding design practice as a rigorous mode of inquiry.
The successful applicant will play a central role in leading and coordinating the Architecture program, ensuring curriculum coherence across undergraduate and postgraduate courses, strengthening studio culture, and supporting high-quality student experiences. The role includes leadership of teaching teams, mentoring of early- and mid-career academics, and responsibility for alignment with accreditation and professional standards.
A key expectation of the role is the integration of design practice research into teaching and scholarship. The Senior Lecturer will contribute to the development of practice-based research pathways, support staff and students engaged in design-led inquiry, and advance socially engaged and Country-responsive approaches across the curriculum.
Located on Whadjuk Noongar Country, Perth offers a distinctive context for architectural education and research. The city's environmental conditions, urban growth challenges, and strong Indigenous presence provide rich opportunities for place-responsive studios, community-engaged research, and design practice grounded in real social and environmental contexts. DBE maintains strong relationships with Indigenous organisations, industry partners, government, and cultural institutions, enabling architecture to be taught and practiced as a publicly engaged discipline.
This role provides genuine academic leadership, not simply administrative coordination. It offers the opportunity to shape the direction and culture of Architecture in Perth, contribute to DBE's interdisciplinary environment, and play a visible role in a school committed to ethical, socially responsible, and forward-looking design education.
