NBMLHD Community Mental Health offers a range of specialised services for children, young people, families and older people, through our community-based services and health centres. Our multidisciplinary health professionals and case managers take a collaborative approach to mental health care by linking with their patients to work together and consult within an environment appropriate to the person's needs.
The Peer Support Worker draws on their lived experience of mental health recovery to offer hope, practical strategies, and person‑led support to consumers engaged with the Blue Mountains Assertive Community Treatment Team. Working across inpatient units and community settings, this role supports individuals with severe and persistent mental illness to stabilise their wellbeing, build autonomy, and pursue meaningful goals in areas such as health, housing, employment, education, identity, and community connection. As part of a multidisciplinary team providing intensive clinical and psychosocial support, the Peer Support Worker contributes to care coordination, engages consumers assertively in their home environments, and ensures all support is guided by peer choice and aligned with the team’s model of care.

What you will bring to the role
* Personal experience as a consumer of Mental Health services and ability to utilise the lived experience to support others in their own Mental Health recovery journey.
* Certificate IV in Mental Health Peer Work (carer), or qualifications in health or other relevant qualification, e.g. degree, diploma or certificate, or readiness to work towards. Current Driver’s Licence and willingness to use for work purpose travel.
* Understanding of and commitment to recovery-oriented services and consumer involvement in service design, implementation and evaluation
* Ability to work effectively across community and inpatient settings.
* Experience in working collaboratively with individuals and groups including the multidisciplinary team; and ability to build and maintain effective relationships with external providers, consumers and carers.
* Demonstrated effective negotiation, time management, and written and verbal communication skills.
* Excellent computing skills, ability to use Microsoft applications in an office setting.
* Demonstrated knowledge of and ability to plan, implement and evaluate group and individual peer led interventions.
