Consultant in Obstetrics (High risk ANC Care-SGA)
This post is offered on a full time (10 PA) basis although less than full time applications will be considered. On-Call duties will be based on our Pinderfields site, but all our medical staff are involved in delivering care to patients on all our three sites. OOH Support for complex emergency surgery would be provided by the Oncall Gynaecology Consultant.

* Administrative duties, for which appropriate office space and secretarial support is provided
* Weekend On‐call duties for Obstetrics are shared with 16 colleagues on an approximately 1:8 basis – Friday/Sunday on‐call weekend: resident 08:00 to 19:30 hours during weekends Saturday and Sunday and then non‐resident until 08:00; Saturday on‐call weekend as above
* Short working weekend – 08:00 to 16:00 Saturday and Sunday (no overnight on‐call)
* Non‐patient‐facing duties on a post‐on‐call day
* Hot Week (Alternate Antenatal/Labour Ward) 1 week in 8: Monday to Friday 08:00–18:00 hrs. (relieved of other activities during this period)

Job responsibilities About the role
Mid Yorkshire Teaching NHS Trust is seeking to appoint a dynamic, enthusiastic and motivated Consultant in Obstetrics with a special interest in High‐Risk ANC specifically SGA to join our busy, forward‐thinking Women's Health team.
This post offers the opportunity to contribute to the development and delivery of a dedicated SGA service within a supportive consultant body and established multidisciplinary team.
The post holder will provide consultant‐level care within the SGA service, supporting the assessment and ongoing management of pregnancies affected by suspected SGA and foetal growth restriction. You will work closely with senior clinicians to ensure high‐quality, evidence‐based care and contribute to service development, teaching and governance.
Our Maternity Services
The Service
* Dedicated SGA clinics run Monday mornings and Friday afternoons at Pinderfields General Hospital
* Weekend and Bank Holiday monitoring supported via Triage/ANDU, including computerised CTG
* Three hospital sites – Wakefield (Pinderfields), Dewsbury, Pontefract
* Consultant‐led antenatal clinics at all three sites
* Midwifery‐led birth centres at Pinderfields and Dewsbury
* Dedicated Consultant‐led labour ward at Pinderfields with 98‐hour resident cover each week
* Close integration with our on‐site Level 2 Neonatal Unit, ensuring seamless care for mothers and babies
* Separate elective caesarean section team (4 days/week)
* Comprehensive bereavement and pregnancy loss support, including dedicated debrief clinics
In addition, there are three antenatal day units (one per hospital) providing daily assessments and reviews. Our team offers expertise across maternal medicine, multiple pregnancy, preterm birth, fetal assessment, SGA scanning and high‐risk obstetrics. We are well supported by Obstetric Anaesthetists, Radiology, and Gynaecology colleagues.

* Supporting Professional Activities in accordance with the Trust Framework, with at least a minimum of 1.5 SPAs included in the core 10PA timetable. Additional SPA or DCC time may be commissioned in line with the skills of the successful candidate and changing requirements of the service

Essential criteria
* Full GMC Registration with licence to practise
* Inclusion on the GMC Specialist Register or within 6 months of obtaining CCT (or CESR / equivalent) in O&G
* Medical Degree from recognised medical school
* MRCOG or equivalent
* ATSM Advanced Labour Ward practice or equivalent ATSM High Risk Pregnancy or equivalent with the USS skills to run an SGA clinic
* Fully accredited by college and acceptable to college representative
* Maintenance of the highest clinical standards in the management of an Obstetrics Service
* Appropriate experience in Obstetrics
* To share with colleagues responsibility for the day‐to‐day management of the Service
* Teaching and training of junior staff, medical students
* To actively participate in both departmental and Trust matters concerning Clinical Governance and audit
* To have responsibility for ensuring active participation in continuing medical education (CME)
* Eligibility to work in the UK
