We are excited to offer an opportunity for a motivated Leading Farm Hand within the Fitzroy Macadamia Operations team. This role is an excellent opportunity for a motivated and experienced farm hand looking to advance their career. As a Leading Farm Hand, you will work closely with Orchard Managers and Supervisors to deliver key operational tasks, provide supervision and support to farm staff, and play an active role in enhancing our farming systems and safety practices.
We're looking for individuals who are proactive, team-oriented, and committed to driving continuous improvement across the orchard.
Key Responsibilities
As a Leading Farm Hand, you will play a vital role in supporting day-to-day orchard operations. Key responsibilities include:
* Working closely with the Orchard Manager to implement programs that maximise tree growth, yield, and crop quality
* Contributing to the development and improvement of farming systems and safety procedures
* Leading and coordinating small teams, including employees and labour hire personnel
* Promoting a positive, safe, and productive work environment across the orchard
* Undertaking operational activities including:
o Chemical spraying
o Pruning, fertilising, slashing and mulching
o Farm maintenance
o Operate and maintain plant and equipment maintenance
Requirements
To succeed in this role, you will bring:
* Extensive experience in farming operations, ideally with tree crops (macadamias highly regarded)
* The ability to supervise small teams of employees, contractors or labour hire personnel
* Strong skills in farm operations including planting, pruning, fertilising, harvesting, irrigation and machinery use
* Experience with minor equipment maintenance and repairs
* Ability to contribute to the development of farming systems and safety processes
* Excellent communication, organisation and record-keeping skills
* Required licences/tickets:
o C class driver's licence
o Loader and chainsaw operation tickets
o Chemical user certificate
o HR class licence (desirable)
o Forklift licence (desirable)
o First Aid certificate (desirable)
