Primary objective
Manage, lead and develop the Forensic Mental Health Team to ensure delivery of high-quality, culturally appropriate, multi-disciplinary
and effective mental health services.

Key duties and responsibilities
1. Provide high level leadership, induction, guidance, mentoring, support, and expert advice to staff to ensure the effective delivery

mental health services to the target population.
2. Ensure the delivery of mental health services within the forensic team is managed consistent with legislative requirements, national

and international best practice models, departmental and program policy and in accordance with National and NT strategic operational
directions and operating procedures.

3. Maintain effective collaborative partnerships with government agencies and other key stakeholders at local and national levels.
4. Accurately analyse complex, multi-faceted problems and develop practical solutions and identify emerging issues and initiate

appropriate and timely actions, including undertaking any reviews.
5. Follow defined service quality standards, work health and safety policies and procedures relating to the work being undertaken in

order to ensure high quality, safe services and workplaces.
6. Foster a positive workplace culture through exemplary leadership practices and role modelling behaviour

Selection criteria
Essential
1. Relevant Allied Health qualifications that meet membership eligibility requirements of the relevant Australian professional associations,

and registration for practice in Australia (AHPRA or relevant others).
2. Demonstrated experience in forensic mental health and secure settings, with a comprehensive understanding of relevant forensic

mental health legislation.
3. Demonstrated knowledge and experience in investigating, analysing, coordinating information, and providing concise, relevant and

timely advice, briefings and written reports to senior executives.
4. Experience in business planning/strategic policy formulation, implementation and evaluation, with sound understanding of working

within policies, frameworks, national guidelines and legislation.
5. Proven high level communication, interpersonal, negotiation and well-developed conflict management skills, with significant

experience working well with other teams, departments, services and stakeholders.
6. Demonstrated high-level knowledge and experience in leadership and change management of multidisciplinary teams ensuring positive

performance and productive outcomes, whilst having the ability to interact effectively with people of diverse cultures.
7. Proven ability to initiate, implement and complete continuous quality improvement and service development activities.
8. High-level planning and time management skills, including the ability to prioritise and complete tasks effectively, work autonomously

and consistently meet deadlines.

Desirable
1. Hold a current NT drivers’ licence or have the ability to obtain.
2. Post-graduate qualifications in mental health.
