We're a dynamic and growing family law firm with offices across Sydney. As we expand, we're looking for an experienced
Senior Wills and Estate Lawyer
to help lead us through our next stage of growth.
This position will be located at our Gladesville office.
This position requires strong leadership skills and deep expertise across all aspects of Wills & Estates, including complex estate planning, probate, and estate litigation. The ideal candidate will bring both technical excellence and the ability to guide clients with clarity and empathy through sensitive and often complex matters.
Reporting directly to the Managing Partner, you'll:
* Provide clear, practical, and empathetic advice to clients on a wide range of wills and estates matters, including complex estate planning, probate, administration, trusts, and contested estates.
* Draft and review legal documents including Wills, testamentary trusts, powers of attorney, enduring guardianships, probate applications, and estate accounts.
* Represent clients in estate disputes, mediations, and Supreme Court proceedings.
* Brief and liaise with barristers where appropriate.
* Negotiate settlements and resolve estate disputes through litigation or alternative dispute resolution.
* Manage your own matters autonomously, with strong attention to detail, accuracy, and client care.
* Mentor and support junior lawyers and contribute to team development.
* Stay up to date with developments in succession law, probate rules, case law, and court procedures, ensuring advice remains accurate and compliant.
* Work collaboratively with external professionals (such as accountants, financial advisers, and trustees) to deliver holistic client outcomes.
* Maintain accurate and thorough file management and case records in accordance with professional and ethical standards.
This is a hands-on role that will suit a proactive, detail-oriented lawyer who combines empathy with strong commercial and technical acumen in wills, probate, and estate matters.
To be successfully considered for this role you will have;
* A minimum of 10 years PAE in Wills & Estates law (NSW-qualified).
* Strong knowledge of the
Succession Act 2006 (NSW)
, probate rules, and relevant legislation.
* Proven experience representing clients in complex estate litigation, including contested probate, family provision claims, and briefing counsel where appropriate.
* Ability to build and maintain strong referral networks, contribute to firm growth, and enhance the firm's reputation in Wills & Estates law.
* Commitment to the highest professional and ethical standards, with meticulous file management and compliance with Law Society guidelines.
* Experience in mediation and alternative dispute resolution to achieve cost-effective, client-centred outcomes.
* Exceptional drafting, advisory, and communication skills across Wills, powers of attorney, guardianships, and testamentary trusts.
* Experience managing complex and high-value estates, trusts, or cross-jurisdictional matters is highly regarded.
* A client-focused mindset with strong emotional intelligence and an empathetic approach.
* Demonstrated leadership and mentoring experience.
