Overview

The Executive Director, Financial Reporting leads Victoria's whole-of-government financial reporting framework to ensure the delivery of high-quality, timely, accurate, and compliant financial reports. This senior leadership role provides strategic direction for Victoria's financial reporting policy, oversees the development and publication of the annual and mid-year Financial Reports, and supports public sector entities by shaping policy, strengthening compliance, and building capability. The role involves providing expert advice on complex accounting issues and fostering strong relationships with key stakeholders, including the Australian Accounting Standards Board and the Victorian Auditor-General's Office.

Lead a high-performing and supportive team. Provide strategic leadership and direction for Victoria's financial reporting policy. SES 2 - $298,489 to $430,740 TRP.

The Financial Reporting Group

The Financial Reporting Group is responsible for the State's key financial reports, including the annual Budget Papers, Annual Financial Report for the State of Victoria, Mid-Year Financial Report, Quarterly Financial Reports and Budget Update as well as monthly financial management reports on progress against the annual budget.

About The Role

As the Executive Director, Financial Reporting, you will lead Victoria's whole-of-government financial reporting framework, ensuring the delivery of high-quality, timely, accurate, and compliant financial reports. This senior leadership role provides strategic direction for Victoria's financial reporting policy, oversees the development and publication of the annual and mid-year Financial Reports, and supports public sector entities by shaping policy, strengthening compliance, and building capability. The role is also responsible for providing expert advice on complex accounting issues and fostering strong relationships with key stakeholders, including the Australian Accounting Standards Board and the Victorian Auditor-General's Office.

About You

To be considered for the role, you must be able to demonstrate:

- Extensive experience in leading complex public sector financial reporting, with deep knowledge of Australian Accounting Standards, the Financial Management Act 1994, FRDs and Standing Directions. Demonstrated capacity to deliver consolidated financial statements at a whole-of-government level.
- Demonstrated ability to lead strategically in a dynamic, high-stakes workplace. Ability to influence outcomes across a complex stakeholder environment, including other departments, external auditors, and departmental CFOs.
- Strong leadership and management capability, including experience leading diverse and high-performing teams. Ability to foster a collaborative, inclusive, and high-performance culture aligned to public sector values.
- Proven ability to build and manage relationships across government, including with ministers, senior public sector executives, oversight bodies and audit offices. Skilled in managing competing interests and complex negotiations.
- Sound judgement and experience managing financial risks, including complex accounting judgements and disclosures. Demonstrated ability to provide assurance over the accuracy and integrity of public financial reporting.
- Excellent written and verbal communication skills, with the ability to convey complex financial and technical issues to a range of audiences to support informed decision making. Experience representing organisations in high-level forums.

Mandatory requirements

- Tertiary qualification in finance, accounting, business, or other related discipline; and
- A member of either CPA Australia or the Institute of Chartered Accountants
