About the Organisation
Nganampa Health Council is an Aboriginal-owned and controlled health organisation operating on the Anangu Pitjantjatjara Yankunytjatjara (APY) Lands in the far northwest of South Australia. Nganampa Health operates six major clinics and various health programs, including sexual health, environmental health, dental, women's health, chronic diseases, eye health, child health, and mental health. The health service enjoys a strong national reputation for best-practice clinical services, leading-edge collaborative programme research and development, and the use of outcome data for continuous evaluation.
The organisation's clinics are AGPAL-accredited, modern facilities staffed by a multidisciplinary team comprising Anangu Liaison Officers, On-Call Support Workers and Nurses, supported by Programme Coordinators and experienced Medical Officers. Nganampa Health Council is recognised as an exemplar of Aboriginal health services. Its successes include reducing sexually transmitted infection rates, increasing birth weights through antenatal programmes, and consistently maintaining childhood immunisation rates above 90%.
The APY Lands are located in the far north-western region of South Australia, covering approximately 103,000 square kilometres with a population of approximately 3,000 Anangu people.
