Primary Detail
* Appointment type: Full‑time (35‑hour work week with opportunities to work a 9‑day fortnight post probation), fixed term position for 2 years
* Salary Package: From $86,087 to $97,879 p.a. (HEW 5), plus 17% employers superannuation and annual leave loading
* Location: Macquarie University (North Ryde)
The Role
The Clinical Trials Associate (CTA) is a specialist role supporting the fast‑paced Clinical Trials team with biological sample processing, trial equipment maintenance and operational support with trial documentation. The broad and varied CTA role will report to the Clinical Trials Laboratory Manager. Some of the key accountabilities of the role are to:
* Process, store and ship biological samples collected from clinical trial patients and oversee processing of samples on your allocated trials by other staff
* Develop strong relationships with sponsors, couriers and central labs to facilitate safe shipment and viability of samples
* Maintain lab consumable stock levels
* Liaise with pathology centres to arrange shipment of archived tissue samples
* Collect and maintain paperwork documenting clinical trials according to strict regulations
* Ensure maintenance of clinical trial equipment
* Maintain GCP compliant clinical trial documentation
* Provide administrative support as required
About Us
The Clinical Trials Unit (CTU) is part of the Faculty of Medicine, Health and Human Sciences (FMHHS) at Macquarie University. FMHHS also has the Macquarie Medical School, the Macquarie University Private Hospital, and runs patient clinics, labs, imaging and a pharmacy all on campus in close proximity to support clinical trials, and support providing patients with access to state‑of‑the‑art treatments. The CTU undertakes sponsored and investigator‑initiated Phase I to IV trials across multiple therapeutic areas with multiple Principal Investigators. Our current team of over 60 staff (managing over 120 trials) are a close‑knit inclusive team with a supportive culture that values teamwork and innovation.
About You (Selection Criteria)
You will be a team player with great interpersonal skills, extraordinary attention to detail, and have well developed laboratory skills. Your ability to multi‑task, manage competing priorities, identify problems and process solutions will see you succeed in this role. You will be passionate about working in clinical trials.
* Tertiary qualification in health, or a science discipline or equivalent laboratory technical experience
* Experience building and managing relationships with key stakeholders
* Proficient in the use of the Microsoft Office suite of products and ability to pick up new IT systems quickly
* Demonstrated attention to detail
* Experience working in clinical trials (highly desirable)
* Passionate about working in clinical trials
