What if your love of clean numbers, neat systems, and no-nonsense finance was the quiet engine behind a fast-moving business?
From invoices to insights — you're the one who keeps the ledger ticking and the numbers decision-ready.
EDLA is a privately-owned, multi-entity business growing fast — with interests in oil and gas and mining services, short-stay accommodation, commercial property, and primary production. Our ambitions stretch well beyond the balance sheet, and we're building a finance function across our group that can keep pace as we grow.
We're hiring a Finance Officer to take the reins on core finance operations and support the Group Financial Controller across day-to-day systems, reporting, and compliance.
This role suits someone hands-on, organised, and comfortable operating with trust. You might be earlier in your career and looking to build experience through practical learning — or someone more established, looking for flexible, part-time work where your skills are valued and your autonomy respected. Either way, you'll be part of a tight-knit team in a business that's always moving forward.
Why this might be your kind of opportunity:
* EDLA Group is privately owned and constantly building — not just profits, but projects, people, and future potential. From mining and dry hire services to short-stay accommodation and primary production, this is a fast-moving group with skin in the game and a long-term view. This is a business where decisions are made in real-time, not locked in layers — and your numbers help drive what happens next.
*
Finance with flow: This isn't abstract spreadsheet work — it's finance that connects directly to people, properties, equipment, and activity on the ground. You'll be supporting day-to-day accounts, reconciling revenue, and helping ensure clean books and smart decisions for the group as a whole. You'll work closely with the Group Financial Controller and liaise with people across the businesses, from operational managers to external advisors.
* Range with clarity: Most weeks, you'll be across the full finance spectrum — payables, coding, reconciliations, debtor management, reporting, and supporting the Group Financial Controller. You'll keep things running without a fuss, but with an eye for where the systems need tightening, updating, or rethinking. You'll keep cashflow current, chase down discrepancies before they become problems, and make the month-end feel like less of a scramble.
* Your environment: flexible structure meets fast pace. This is not a rigid corporate. It's a growing, multi-entity group with evolving systems and a focus on what works. That means you'll bring order to complexity, tighten the systems behind the numbers, and spot what needs cleaning up or locking in. You'll be working with a small, pragmatic, and fast-moving team. People value clarity, trust, and the ability to get things done without drama.
* Local, flexible, and built for real life: This role is based at our head office in Edinburgh, South Australia, with flexibility around 12–15 hours per week and potential to expand over time. Whether you're looking to fit work around other commitments, return to the workforce, or just want smart, focused hours — this is a role that values consistency over clock-punching.
What's involved:
(45%) Core Finance Ops
This is the heartbeat of the role. You'll run payables, receivables, and reconciliations with speed and precision — coding invoices, clearing payment runs, and closing loops with suppliers before they turn into bottlenecks. You chase down missing info like the group chat organiser before a big weekend — following up receipts, confirming details, and making sure everything's squared away before things go sideways. From credit cards to ageing reports, your work keeps the engine running like it just rolled off the lot — polished, tight, and ready to go.
(35%) Spreadsheet Signal Finder
You don't just reconcile — you reveal. You'll track cash like a hawk, update rolling forecasts, and prep reports that drive real decisions. Part detective, part dashboard, you see the story behind the spreadsheet and clock anomalies faster than a seasoned editor catches a typo. Whether you're supporting month‑end, catching coding errors, or sharpening up that cashflow model, your numbers help the business move faster and smarter.
(20%) Systems. Sorted.
Payroll backup? Sorted. Compliance docs? Filed and flagged. Audit support? You've already prepped it. You're the calm hand behind the curtain, keeping internal processes humming without fuss. And when you spot something clunky, you fix it — whether that's refining a workflow, ditching a double-handle, or nudging a better system into place. You don't just keep up — you clean up.
The kind of person who'll thrive here:
*
Fastidious with finance:
You've juggled accounts payable, bank reconciliations, and monthly reporting without dropping the ball — even when timelines are tight, or details are incomplete. Whether it's matching a remittance, chasing a stray invoice, or reconciling a tangle of transactions, you keep your head, find the thread, and pull things into order.
*
Structure is your second language:
You've landed with systems in place — accounts, folders, handovers — and brought the kind of rhythm that turns "almost there" into airtight. You work with what's there, refine what's missing, and shape it into something the whole team can rely on. You bring a methodical brain, but you're not rigid — you know when to flex, when to document, and when to improve quietly as you go.
* Structured mind, agile moves:
You've handled finance ops in fast-moving environments — maybe construction, services, or primary industries. You spot errors fast, follow the thread, and fix problems properly. Spreadsheets soothe you. Reconciling gives you life.
*
You think like a builder:
You don't just do the job — you understand how it fits. You've improved a system because it made the workflow better. You've cleaned up a register, introduced a smarter template, or mapped a process that helped the next person move faster. You lift as you go.
* Practical, positive, and on point:
You're hands-on, responsive, and known for follow-through. You work with care, ask when you're unsure, and move with momentum once you've got the context. You're up for a laugh — and you keep the tone easy even when the pace isn't.
