The organisation is a premium residential construction company delivering architecturally designed, high-quality homes. We partner closely with our clients, consultants, and suppliers to deliver exceptional outcomes through rigorous financial control, risk management, and operational excellence.


The Role

The Financial Controller plays a critical business-partnering role, working closely with the Directors to manage financial performance, commercial outcomes, risk, and compliance across the business. This role sits at the intersection of finance, operations, and governance, ensuring projects and the business as a whole are commercially sound, well-controlled, and positioned for sustainable growth.


Key Responsibilities

* Act as a trusted business partner to the Directors, providing insight into operating performance, project profitability, budgets, forecasts, and cost control.
* Oversee budgeting, financial forecasting, periodic reporting, and financial modelling.
* Manage weekly and monthly financial reporting including P&L, balance sheet, and cash flow reporting.
* Oversee cash flow management, funding requirements, and overall capital needs of the business.
* Assist Directors with related-party and inter-company transactions.
* Manage the financial control function including general ledger integrity, accounts payable and receivable, reconciliations, company credit cards, and payroll.
* Oversee all finance systems, ensuring robust, efficient, and scalable systems and processes are in place.
* Ensure accurate, timely, and consistent financial data and reporting across the business.


Tax, Compliance & Insurance

* Manage tax and statutory compliance processes, liaising with external accountants and advisors.
* Oversee payroll compliance including awards, payroll tax, Single Touch Payroll, and WorkCover.
* Manage insurance reporting and general insurance claims.
* Support the Directors in overseeing the business risk function, including ownership and maintenance of the risk register.
* Review, assess, and improve risk management policies, procedures, and controls.
* Recommend and implement risk mitigation strategies including insurance, safety and security policies, business continuity planning, and recovery measures.


Reporting & Stakeholder Communication

* Establish and deliver regular reporting to the Directors, including board-level reporting, meeting support, and presentations.
* Maintain honest, authentic, timely, accurate, and consistent communication with internal and external stakeholders.


Health, Safety & Environment (HSE)

* Adhere to all organisational HSE policies, procedures, and relevant legislation.
* Take reasonable care for your own health and safety and that of others.
* Ensure employees and contractors are aware of and compliant with HSE requirements.
* Ensure workplace and environmental hazards, near misses, and incidents are reported, assessed, and appropriately controlled.


About You


Qualifications & Experience

* Degree in Commerce, Accounting, or a related discipline.
* CAANZ or CPA Australia membership (or currently progressing).
* Minimum 4+ years' experience in an accounting firm or senior finance/commercial role with accountability to business owners.
* Commercial and financial leadership experience within property or construction (highly regarded).
* Strong understanding of project delivery environments including project management, planning and design, procurement, and HSE.
