The Specialist Refuge Practitioner role is aimed at providing enhanced short-term support to those accessing the Wodonga Youth Refuge. It has been recognised that youth homelessness extends into adulthood, and therefore this service places significance upon the promotion and support of reconciliation with families; so that youth can remain at or return home. Thus, the aim of this service is to provide an early intervention approach to youth homelessness, by diverting youth away from the homelessness service system.

This involves extensive assessment of the young person's developmental, psychological, health and social needs, and specialist advice and support with relation to the identified needs. This position will work alongside the Youth Pathways & Reconnection Case Manager to provide input regarding the needs of the young person. Secondary consultation with other professionals may also be required.
