Your impact
Jacobs' Energy & Power Advisory team sits at the forefront of the energy transition, helping clients navigate complex, rapidly evolving electricity and gas markets across APAC. We combine deep market expertise with advanced quantitative modelling to deliver strategic insights on market behaviour, investment decisions, policy, and system transformation. Our work spans power market analytics, regulatory design, decarbonisation pathways, and commercial advisory – supporting governments, developers, investors, and utilities to make confident, future‐focused decisions.
As demand grows for more sophisticated, data‐driven insights, our team continues to evolve – integrating advanced modelling techniques, automation, and innovative tools to stay ahead of market change.
We're looking for a Principal Energy Market Modeller to be a senior technical leader within our team. This role is for someone who has spent years in the market and understands not just how models work, but what they should be telling us. You will shape our modelling approach, guide how we interpret market signals, and ensure our outputs translate into meaningful, commercially sound advice for clients.
You'll lead complex modelling and advisory engagements, oversee the integrity and direction of our modelling capability, and bring a strong market view on where the energy system is heading – and how we position our analysis to stay ahead of it.
* Lead the development and application of advanced energy market models (e.g. pricing, dispatch, investment and system reliability)
* Set modelling direction – defining assumptions, methodologies, and ensuring outputs are robust and commercially meaningful
* Translate complex modelling results into clear insights and advice for clients and decision‐makers
* Act as a technical authority, ensuring strong model governance, quality control, and best practice across the team
* Lead client engagements, contributing to proposals, building relationships, and delivering trusted market advice
* Mentor and uplift team capability, supporting the development of more junior modellers
Here's what you'll need
* Extensive experience in energy market modelling or a closely related field, with deep exposure to evolving market conditions
* Strong hands‐on experience with tools such as PLEXOS or similar modelling platforms
* Deep understanding of electricity market dynamics, pricing drivers, and investment behaviour developed over time in the industry
* Proven ability to apply judgement and market insight to guide modelling direction – not just build models, but shape what they should be testing
* Strong intuition for market trends and the ability to anticipate how policy, technology, and investment shifts will impact outcomes
* Excellent communication and stakeholder skills, with the ability to influence senior audiences and translate complex results into clear advice
