About the role
As a Chemistry Supervising Scientist, you will play a pivotal part in advancing high-quality diagnostic and scientific services within your specialised discipline. Working at the MeS3 level, you will bring deep professional expertise, sound judgment and a strong commitment to service improvement. You will lead and mentor a team of medical scientists, technical officers and paraprofessionals, guiding their daily practice while fostering a collaborative, supportive and high-performing environment. Your role will focus on enhancing the value and effectiveness of your discipline, ensuring it continues to make a meaningful contribution to patient care and organisational outcomes.
Operating with broad professional autonomy, you will oversee scientific functions within a moderately complex service area, setting operational priorities, standards and workflows aligned with organisational goals. Drawing on extensive experience and/or advanced study, you will shape resource allocation, strengthen quality systems and contribute to strategic decision-making. Key Requirements
* Scientific qualifications and discipline expertise
Bachelor-level qualifications (or recognised equivalent) with a strong pathology focus, supported by specialised knowledge, extensive diagnostic laboratory experience, and high-level competence in interpreting and reporting complex tests.
* Leadership, communication and people capability
Demonstrated ability to lead, motivate and develop staff; collaborate across diagnostic and research teams; communicate clearly with stakeholders at all levels; and contribute proactively within a team environment.
* Analytical, technical and quality management proficiency
Strong analytical skills, expertise in laboratory data applications, and significant experience with quality control, assurance, evaluation and implementation of new techniques, ensuring accuracy, safety and compliance with WHS and accreditation standards.
* Operational judgement, autonomy and organisational effectiveness
Ability to manage complex workflows, set priorities, operate effectively under pressure, plan for future service needs, and take accountability for practice while maintaining high organisational, interpersonal and customer service standards.
