Senior Manager, Government & Industry Affairs Permanent opportunity |Additional 12-month fixed-term opportunity also available See yourself in our team Group Marketing and Corporate Affairs (MCA) drives CBA's brand and reputation, partnering across the Group to engage customers, communities and stakeholders. Within MCA, Government and Industry Affairs works with Federal and State governments, departments and industry bodies to inform evidence-based policy development and advocate positions that deliver positive outcomes for our customers, communities and the broader economy. This is a permanent Senior Manager opportunity. A separate 12-month fixed-term role is also available at Senior Manager or Manager level depending on experience. Do work that matters Reporting to the Executive Manager, Government and Industry Affairs, this individual contributor role supports CBA's engagement with government, parliament, industry and internal stakeholders across a broad portfolio of public policy and corporate affairs issues. Responsibilities will be shaped by the successful candidate's skills and business priorities. Key responsibilities include: Supporting CBA's engagement with politicians, parliamentary offices, government departments and industry associations at Federal and State level. Preparing high-quality briefing notes, policy analysis and information packs for senior executives ahead of government meetings, industry forums and parliamentary appearances. Monitoring and analysing political, policy, regulatory and industry developments, identifying risks and opportunities, and providing timely advice to internal stakeholders. Supporting CBA's participation in industry bodies including the Australian Banking Association and Business Council of Australia, and coordinating input into consultations, inquiries and reform processes. Preparing parliamentary submissions, responses to questions on notice and executive briefing materials. Developing public policy positions across a portfolio of issues, drawing on accurate internal and external data to shape outcomes that benefit customers and communities. Working across the Group to understand business priorities, assess policy impacts and reconcile competing perspectives. Maintaining stakeholder relationships and contributing to strategies that build trust, enhance CBA's reputation and support a constructive operating environment. What we're looking for: At least 5 years' experience in government affairs, public policy, corporate affairs, regulatory affairs or a similar role. Proven ability to prepare accurate briefing notes, submissions and policy analysis for senior audiences under deadline. Strong understanding of the machinery of government, parliamentary processes and the Australian political environment. Excellent written communication skills with the ability to simplify complex issues. Discretion and maturity in handling sensitive or high-profile matters. Commercial judgement to assess the impact of policy and regulatory changes on CBA's business, customers and communities. Strong stakeholder management skills across government, industry and large organisations. Excellent organisational skills with the ability to manage competing priorities under pressure. Tertiary qualifications in law, economics, political science, public policy, business or a related discipline. Experience in government, banking, financial services or another regulated sector will be highly regarded. This role suits someone with solid practical experience who is ready to operate with autonomy and confidence alongside senior leaders.
