Inverell District Hospital is a 52-bed facility that provides services to the North-Western and New England communities of NSW. There is also a Community Health Centre on campus which provides primary health care and is supported by on-site anaesthetics, gynaecology and remote retrieval teams. This newly built ED has 9 beds consisting of 1 resuscitation bed, 1 consult room, 1 mental Safe Assessment room, 1 negative pressure isolation room, 1 procedure room, 3 open bay beds and a paediatric bed. There is also a fast-track facility onsite and combined sees between 30-40 presentations a day. There is a strong focus on community engagement and they work collaboratively with GP/VMO’s. They also have on-site staff facilities and ample parking.
Emergency Department
* The ED is staffed with one medical officer at a time. When rostered, they are responsible for providing timely clinical management and treatment to all patients presenting to the emergency department and for review of inpatients after-hours and on weekends as required.
* The Urgent Care Centre operates on site, remote from the ED, from 0900 to 1800, 7 days a week. Patient presentations with a Triage category of 4 and 5 are given the option to be directed here, once they have been triaged and assessed as appropriate for referral, leaving the more acute presentations to be seen in the Emergency Department.
Availability
* Ongoing FIFO opportunities until 2026 exist for this location.
Logistics and Arrangements
* Direct flights operate from Sydney and Brisbane also available to ensure stable work/life balance.
* Alternately a short drive from either Tamworth or Armidale.
* Rental car provided if driving from Tamworth or Armidale.
* Onsite accommodation provided.
Essential Criteria
To be eligible for this locum you must have
* Full working rights in Australia.
* General registration with AHPRA.
* Emergency medicine experience.
