The role is a first point of contact for Koorie students and provides generalist support throughout the students' journey. The incumbent is a key and active participant of the Student Support and Engagement team and provides support as part of a multi-disciplinary team.
As a Koorie Student Support Officer, your key responsibilities include:
- Actively support Koorie students through enrolment, considering potential barriers including financial, cultural, LL&N (Language, literacy and numeracy) and look to support students through the process, promoting scholarships, reconnect program and financial capability support as required.
- Provide individual support in relation to a range of topics including, study skills, social connectedness, financial capability and general wellbeing/welfare matters
- Support Koorie students to connect with Language, Literacy and Numeracy support, Librarian resources/services and actively participate in study groups.
- Act as a pathway for Koorie students to access internal and external support services.
- Ensure high risk or urgent cases are referred and escalated swiftly to appropriate internal supports.
- Facilitate the collection and reporting of Koorie feedback including via surveys and feedback sessions.
- Actively promote prospective student facing events (e.g. Open Days etc.) and celebrations of cultural identity of Koorie learners (e.g. Join the Dots) to the local Aboriginal and Torres Strait Islander community through appropriate channels.
- Celebrate Aboriginal and Torres Strait Islander culture and acknowledge significant dates and key events, by participating, facilitating and coordinating engagement activities and/or events.
**ABOUT YOU**
You are a highly motivated individual with well-developed skills and experience in engaging students in an educational setting, high quality oral and written communication skills, good interpersonal skills with the ability to build rapport. You can demonstrate empathy for the needs of a diverse student population.
**Qualifications required for the role**:
- Diploma qualified in a community service or related field or equivalent significant student support and/or engagement experience.
