The Operational & Access Planning Engineer role involves delivering safe and secure access to the AusNet Transmission network, preparing for and responding to power system security risks, and ensuring the ongoing operability and maintenance of the Transmission network.
This position requires technical expertise to maximize safety, reliability, and incentive scheme outcomes while ensuring excellent customer outcomes.
Key outcomes include:
* Supporting Transmission Control & Operations activities proactively, processing planned work, refreshing knowledge, planning for contingencies, and sharing knowledge
* Developing and maintaining operational procedures and data in technology systems, including operational and information technology
* Supporting Transmission Control & Operations and Emergency Management teams in real-time incident response or preparation
* Providing support to AEMO and real-time operations in managing power system security threats and market events to improve risk management, customer outcomes, and performance against incentive schemes
* Offering technical support and advice within your area of expertise to stakeholders, projects, and process improvements
* Coordinating the transmission access plan through stakeholder engagement with customers, delivery partners, NSPs, and AEMO
* Reviewing access applications and assessing planned switching operations to ensure network safety and security
Qualifications and Skills:
* Relevant tertiary education in Engineering (e.g., Electrical Engineering degree)
* Knowledge of the Code of Practice on Electrical Safety in the VESI (Blue Book)
* Understanding of electricity Transmission network operational policies and procedures
* Knowledge of relevant legislation, laws, regulations, standards, and codes applicable to Transmission operations
* Advanced knowledge of AC circuit theory as applied to power systems and network limitations
* Familiarity with the Australian National Electricity Market (NEM) and Victorian electricity distribution networks
* Experience with Energy Management Systems, SCADA, and operational technologies
* Understanding of incentive scheme metrics and control room drivers
