Are you an experienced Financial Accountant available at short notice and ready to take on a high-impact contract role?
We are currently recruiting a Financial Accountant for an organisation based in Cairns. This temporary opportunity has the potential for a contract extension.
Your new role
In this pivotal position, you will take ownership of overseeing key finance functions, ensuring operational efficiency and compliance across Payroll, Accounts Payable, Accounts Receivable, and Debt Recovery. Working closely with Team Leaders, you will provide strategic oversight, technical support, and escalation management while contributing to critical financial reporting and compliance activities.
Key responsibilities include:
* Overseeing day-to-day operations across Payroll, Creditors and Debtors functions
* Supporting Team Leaders with complex queries and process improvements
* Managing end-of-month processes, including journals and reporting
* Preparing and supporting monthly BAS and statutory reporting requirements
* Assisting with balance sheet reconciliations and financial controls
* Supporting EOFY deliverables, including accruals, reconciliations, and reporting notes
* Preparing the Taxable Payments Annual Report (TPAR)
* Driving process improvements and strengthening internal controls
* Supporting audit processes and responding to audit queries
What you'll need to succeed
You are a proactive and detail-oriented finance professional with strong leadership capability and a collaborative approach. You thrive in a fast-paced environment and are confident in managing multiple priorities.
* Degree qualification in Accounting, Business or Commerce
* CPA or CA qualification (essential)
* Experience in a senior finance or leadership role
* Strong understanding of financial reporting, compliance, and statutory obligations
* Experience overseeing transactional finance teams in a high-volume environment
* Advanced Excel skills and exposure to financial systems
* Excellent communication, problem-solving, and organisational skills
* Experience within a large or complex organisation will be highly advantageous.
