Life at Mission Australia

When you join the team at Mission Australia, you become part of a community who are determined to end homelessness and ensure people in need can thrive. United by our Christian purpose and values, we advocate for a fairer Australia, to meet the growing needs of people across the country. Together we're building hope and possibility for all. Find out more about us and our purpose.

Intensive Family Support (IFS) is an early intervention service supporting families with children aged 0–18 who are at risk of entering the child protection system. The service focuses on improving child safety, strengthening families, and creating lasting change.

In this specialist role, you'll provide expert D&FV practice leadership while also working directly with families facing complex challenges. Your knowledge and guidance will support strong, safe practice across the team and help reduce the need for statutory child protection involvement.

At Mission Australia, you'll be part of an organisation committed to standing alongside people and communities to help them thrive.

Your Key Responsibilities
* Provide specialist D&FV advice, coaching and practice leadership to the IFS team.
* Strengthen team capability through training, reflective practice and practice guidance.
* Work directly with families, including home visits, to develop and implement effective case plans.
* Complete risk assessment and safety planning using the Common Risk Assessment and Risk Management Framework.
* Deliver culturally safe practice, particularly with Aboriginal and Torres Strait Islander families.
* Build strong partnerships with community services and key stakeholders.
* Contribute to continuous improvement and service learning.
Requirements for Success

You will bring strong experience in child protection and/or child, youth and family services with specialist D&FV expertise, along with:

* Tertiary qualifications in Social Work, Social Sciences, Psychology or a related discipline (highly regarded).
* Knowledge of the Domestic and Family Violence Protection Act and Child Protection Act.
* Experience delivering trauma‐informed, culturally responsive practice with diverse families.
* Confidence supporting practitioners in complex and high‐risk situations.
* Strong risk assessment, crisis response and safety planning skills.
* Excellent communication and stakeholder engagement skills.
* Confidence using case management systems and Microsoft Office.
* A person‐centred approach.
* Full driver licence with no restrictions.

Before starting work with us, you will need to undertake a national police history check, qualifications, and referee checks, and have a clearance to work with children/vulnerable people.

Benefits
* Rewarding work – every day you know you're making a real difference
* Not-for-profit salary packaging, reducing your tax (details via AccessPay)
* Free external, confidential counselling and access to chaplaincy support
* Volunteering opportunities
* Opportunity to purchase additional annual leave
* Extra leave including Mission Australia Thank You Day & Work Anniversary Day off
