Overview
Belmont High School is a large single campus co-educational secondary school south of the Barwon River in the regional city of Geelong with enrolments of ****** students in ****. We share boundaries with Roslyn Primary School and the Barwon Valley School (a specialist setting) and have had increasing cooperation and sharing with both in recent years. Camp programs operate at the school owned Tanybryn Campsite in the beautiful Otway Ranges. We have onsite access to BioLAB (the Victorian BioScience Education Centre) that specialises in human performance and sport.
Our vertical House system supports pastoral care for all year levels and is integral to student and teacher management, leadership and well-being. The Year 9 Strive Program also supports pastoral care for students with a significant teacher and community-based curriculum, including a camping program. The school offers VCE and VCE-Vocational Major programs and is an RTO, supporting both on-site and external VET delivery.
We provide extensive leadership opportunities for students, an active co-curricular program, and a large and successful music and performance program. The school is committed to diversity and has an international student program with an English Language Centre.
The school is accredited to offer a Select Entry Accelerated Learning Program and operates a student support centre, Middle Years Program, and language programs in Italian and Indonesian.
Selection Criteria
SC1
Demonstrated knowledge of the relevant curriculum, including the ability to incorporate literacy and numeracy skills, and experience responding to student learning needs.
SC2
Experience planning and implementing high-impact teaching strategies, guided by how students learn, and evaluating the impact of learning and teaching on student growth.
SC3
Experience monitoring and assessing student learning, using data to inform practice and providing feedback to students and parents.
SC4
Interpersonal and communication skills; ability to establish and maintain collaborative relationships with students, parents, colleagues and the broader community to support learning, engagement and well-being.
SC5
Behaviours and attitudes consistent with Department values; reflection on practice and engagement in professional learning to continually improve teaching quality.
Role
The classroom teacher classification comprises two salary ranges – Range 1 and Range 2. The primary focus is on planning, preparation and teaching of programs to achieve specific student outcomes. Teachers engage in critical reflection and inquiry to improve knowledge and skills and may undertake additional duties appropriate to their salary range, qualifications and experience.
Range 2 Responsibilities
Assist the school in improving student performance and educational outcomes, as part of the strategic plan.
Develop and implement school policies and priorities.
Increase staff knowledge of high-quality instruction and student learning.
Model exemplary classroom practice and mentor/coach other teachers.
Provide expert advice on content, processes and strategies for professional learning.
Supervise and train one or more student teachers.
Assist staff in using student data to inform teaching and achieve learning targets.
Range 1 Responsibilities
Develop skills and competencies to become an effective classroom practitioner.
Plan, prepare and teach programs to achieve specific outcomes.
Teach a range of students/classes under general direction and guidelines.
Possibly supervise and train one or more student teachers.
Participate in the development of school policies and programs.
Support the implementation of school priorities.
Plan and teach student groups in one or more subjects, participate in induction and professional learning activities.
Assist and participate in policy development, project teams and organisation of co-curricula activities.
Responsibilities
Direct teaching of groups of students and individual students.
Contribute to the development, implementation and evaluation of a curriculum area or other curriculum program.
Undertake other classroom teaching-related and organisational duties as determined by the School Principal.
Participate in activities such as parent/teacher meetings, staff meetings, camps and excursions.
Undertake other non-teaching supervisory duties.
Who May Apply
Teachers who are currently registered or eligible for registration with the Victorian Institute of Teaching and are qualified to teach or have demonstrated experience in the specified curriculum area(s) for the position.

Qualification Requirements
Provisional or full registration approved by the Victorian Institute of Teaching.
If completed an Australian postgraduate-level initial teaching programme or course on or after 1 January ****, must have completed a post-graduate level accredited initial teacher education programme recognised by an Australian State or Territory Teacher Regulatory Authority.
If graduated from a Victorian Initial Teacher Education programme after 1 July ****, must demonstrate that the LANTITE requirements have been satisfied.
