The TeamThe Litigation and Public Law team is part of ASIC's Corporate Legal Services (CLS) group within the broader Legal Services function. CLS provides corporate, commercial, governance and public law advice relevant to ASIC's functions and operations, through its Commercial and Employment Law, Litigation and Public Law, and Information and Data Law teams. The Litigation and Public Law team advises on claims made against ASIC, committee and corporate governance matters, obligations under the ASIC Act and PGPA Act, and ASIC delegations and authorisations. The team works closely with senior stakeholders across ASIC and plays a critical role in managing complex legal and reputational risks. The roleAsCorporate Counsel – Litigation and Public Law, you will lead a team of legal professionals managing a broad and complex portfolio of litigation and public law matters. You will provide strategic, high‐level legal advice. You will operate with a high degree of autonomy, exercising sound legal judgement, managing competing priorities, and overseeing the effective use of internal and external legal resources. You WillProvide leadership and senior management of the Litigation and Public Law team, including setting priorities, managing resources and business planning Provide and coordinate specialist legal advice and tactical guidance in relation to legal and other claims against ASIC, its members and staff, including negligence, defamation, breach of statutory duty and Act of Grace claims Advise on public law issues relevant to ASIC's operations, including delegations, decision‐making, conflicts of interest, procedural fairness and official duties Provide strategic advice on Commonwealth legislation and policy relevant to complex public law and litigation matters Identify and manage legal risks within ASIC's risk framework and reporting structures Supervise, mentor and develop lawyers within the team, working collaboratively across Legal Services and ASIC more broadly Model ASIC's values of Accountability, Professionalism and Teamwork and contribute positively to a collegial and high‐performing team environment About YouYou are a senior legal professional with strong leadership capability and extensive experience advising on complex litigation and public law matters. You are confident engaging with senior stakeholders, able to provide clear, practical and strategic advice, and committed to supporting ASIC's purpose and values. You Will Also HaveLegal qualifications and eligibility to hold an Unrestricted Australian Legal Practising Certificate Significant post‐admission experience (approximately 15+ years) gained in government, an in‐house legal team and/or a law firm Strong written and verbal communication skills, including the ability to prepare high‐quality advice for senior audiences Demonstrated people management and leadership experience Strong organisational skills and the ability to manage complex, competing priorities in a fast‐paced environment Knowledge of, or the ability to quickly develop knowledge of, the ASIC Act, Corporations Act, PGPA Act, Legal Services Directions and related legislation About ASICASIC's remit is one of the broadest of regulators across the world.
