Position Information
Woniora Road School is a School for Specific Purpose located in Hurstville. The school offers full-time enrolment for 49 secondary-aged students from the Southern Sydney Metropolitan area who have been offered placement via referral to a regional placement panel. All students have been diagnosed with an internalising emotional disorder and/or mental health issues and have been referred after extended periods of disengagement from learning through either non-attendance and/or safety concerns in the mainstream environment stemming from their mental health issues. By providing engaging academic programs in a highly supportive environment, the school enables students to achieve academic goals and have an improved sense of wellbeing.
The Mathematics teacher will deliver the school's Face-to-Face curriculum delivery in Mathematics in Stage 4 & Stage 5. They will also support Stage 6 students in engaging successfully with their Distance Education coursework. The teacher will also work closely with the Assistant Principal in the role of 'hub teacher' for a small group of students. The hub teacher – with the support of the wellbeing team and several School Learning Support Officers - co-ordinates the Personalised Learning and Support Plans of the students.
Selection Criteria
Approval to teach Mathematics (Years 7-12) and approval to teach Emotion Disturbance (Secondary) and/or experience teaching students with Emotion Disturbance.
Proven ability to deliver differentiated and innovative mathematics programs employing explicit teaching strategies to engage the full range of learners across the Mathematics curriculum.
Strong communication and interpersonal skills with a demonstrated ability to build positive relationships with students, staff, parents and the wider community.
Conditions
An unconditional full approval to teach is a requirement. If you do not hold a full approval to teach with the NSW Department of Education, you are required to commence the application process at the same time as you apply for this teaching opportunity.
