Position Summary
The Chipper Operator/EWP operator carries out tree services and maintenance works by use of chainsaws, wood chippers, stump grinders and other ancillary equipment as directed. Including emergency works.
Key Requirements
* Identify hazards and implement safe operating procedures
* Safely cross-cut fallen timber using compression and tension cuts with a hand held chainsaw
* Demonstrate safe and environmentally responsible workplace practices
* Obtain relevant licenses and permits
* Read and interpret manufacturer's specifications, work and maintenance plans, and Material Safety Data Sheets (MSDSs)
* Effectively communicate information, interpret and apply task instructions, and maintain records and reports
* Estimate and measure dimensions, and calculate volumes
* Recognize caution or hazard signs and symbols
* Interpret tasks or information from labels, manuals or written instructions
* Record information accurately or verbally report information
* Use literacy skills to follow sequenced written instructions and record information accurately and legibly
* Use oral communication skills/language competence to fulfil the job role as specified by the organisation including questioning, active listening, asking for clarification and seeking advice from supervisor
* Use numeracy skills to estimate, calculate and record routine workplace measures
* Use interpersonal skills to relate to people from a range of social, cultural and ethnic backgrounds and with a range of physical and mental abilities
Job Responsibility
* To undertake wood Chipping duties as directed
* To undertake herbicide treatment for works
* To assist all persons when / where possible in a courteous, helpful and respectful manner at all times
* To liaise with the Team Leader and keep him/her fully informed regarding appropriate issues.
* When required, to drive/operate a vehicle/item of plant, in accordance with the current traffic regulations and health and safety policies and practices
* To undertake and participate in daily toolbox meetings and site specific risk assessments
* To undertake such other duties and responsibilities of a similar skill level as may reasonably be required
* To safely and efficiently use a EWP.
