Primary objective
Based at the Alice Springs Correctional Centre (ASCC), the Manager of Operational Support will be required to provide quality generalist
and specialist advice and support to managers and employees on a diverse range of rostering and leave matters to ensue operational
compliance with enterprise agreements to enhance the capability and delivery of the department's business outcomes.
Key duties and responsibilities
1. Provide advice and support to management on employee relations, operational compliance with the legislation, enterprise agreements
and performance reporting to achieve agency outcomes.
1. Coordinate and provide support in Workers Compensation and return to work practices align with current legislations and Acts.
2. Provide leadership to a small team to ensure the leave management and operational compliance with the enterprise agreements and
to provide high level administrative support to the General Manager (GM) and senior corrections leadership team at ASCC to maintain
appropriate staffing.
1. Investigate and prepare complex documents, operational policy, directives or correspondence on behalf of the GM with respect to
rosters and operational staffing at the Centre.
1. Develop and maintain effective collaborative relationships with senior management, staff and external service providers to ensure
advice, organisational capacity building and change management activities are aligned to business needs.
1. Provide a key liaison conduit for requests from the GM and senior leadership team at ASCC team providing advice on the development
and interpretation of legislation and Enterprise Agreement.
1. Providing advice and support to staff development through the coordination of performance management plans.
Selection criteria
Essential
1. Demonstrated leadership skills with the ability to effectively manage and lead a small busy team.
1. Demonstrated experience in rostering systems for 24/7 operational environment and ability to apply legislation, enterprise agreement
compliance and conditions of service.
3. High level communication and negotiation skills to enable effective intervention or management of sensitive and/or complicated issues.
Includes conflict management and performance management.
4. Proven capacity to maintain high-level personal performance, resilience and ability to deal with high workloads and competing priorities
to deliver effective outcomes in a timely manner to adapt to meet changing demands and tight deadlines.
1. Proven skills in the effective use of computer systems and spreadsheet applications including Word, Excel, mainframe and databases,
and roster systems with the ability to analyse data and produce meaningful reports.
Desirable
1. Tertiary qualification in a relevant discipline e.g. Public Administration, Business Management, Human Resource Management or similar
