Operator XR, a division of xReality Group (XRG), is seeking a high-caliber Lead Electronics Engineer to head our electronics design and development team in Brookvale. As our defence and law enforcement systems secure multi-million dollar contracts with global agencies, we are scaling our engineering function to meet the demands of simulated training.
In this leadership role, you will be the primary technical authority for our hardware portfolio. You will bridge the gap between conceptual R&D and high-volume production, managing a multidisciplinary group of engineers to deliver the next generation of our portable, secure, and highly immersive XR training devices.
Responsibilities
* Engineering Leadership: Manage and mentor a team of electronics engineers and technicians, fostering a culture of technical excellence and continuous growth.
* Advanced PCB Design: Lead the architectural definition and design of complex, multi-layer custom PCBs using Altium Designer or similar, with a focus on high quality device functionality and longevity.
* Reliability & Quality Assurance: Implement and uphold QA standards for all hardware to ensure uninterrupted service in challenging training environments.
* Tracking System Integration: Drive the hardware development of visual‐inertial tracking systems, including the integration of IMUs and other sensors for robust tracking performance.
* Ruggedization: Oversee the engineering process to ensure all hardware meets ISO standards and impact, vibration, and thermal tolerance.
* Strategic Oversight: Manage project timelines, relationships with external PCB assembly houses and contract manufacturers.
Qualifications
* Bachelor's or Master's degree in Electronics/Electrical Engineering or a related field.
* 8+ years of professional electronics development experience, with at least 2 years in a leadership or management capacity.
* Mastery of Altium Designer or similar for schematic and multi‐layer PCB layout.
* Deep knowledge of manufacturing standards and testing procedures.
* Strong problem‐solving skills for debugging complex hardware/software interactions at the system level.
* Must be able to work in our Brookvale or Sydney office.
* Demonstrated experience with "Inside‐Out" tracking architectures.
* Familiarity with firmware development for hardware, including validation and test automation.
* Experience with sensor integration for wearable IoT devices or weapon‐integrated sensors.
Benefits
* Direct impact: Your work directly enhances the preparedness and safety of military and law enforcement personnel globally.
* Innovation: Access to the latest XR technology and the resources to develop world‐first hardware solutions.
