School Psychologist – KickStart Program
Play a central role in supporting the mental health and wellbeing of children and young people in NSW public schools through counselling, assessment, and collaboration with school teams.
Key Accountabilities
* Provide individual and group counselling and appropriate short‐term therapeutic interventions within the scope of your training and supervision.
* Engage with and implement the Professional Practice Framework for the NSW School Counselling Service.
* Work in consultation with principals, school executives, staff and student support services to improve student learning and wellbeing outcomes and implement departmental priorities.
* Contribute to the social, emotional, and academic development of students and support schools and students with complex behavioural needs.
* Administer cognitive, social, emotional and behavioural assessments of students, report on findings, and collaborate to improve learning, wellbeing and mental health outcomes.
* Work collaboratively with learning and support teams, parents and carers, and other agencies to develop appropriate school‐based support for students.
* Respond as part of a team to assist schools experiencing serious incidents.
* Refer students and/or their families and carers to external agencies that can support student health and wellbeing outcomes.
Essential Requirements
* Knowledge of and commitment to the Department's Aboriginal Education Policy, Partnership Agreement with the NSW AECG Inc and the Diversity and Inclusion Strategy.
* Registered or provisionally registered psychologist with the Psychology Board of Australia.
* Australian citizenship or permanent residency.
* Valid and current Working with Children Check clearance – NSW.
* Ability and willingness to travel between work sites; valid unrestricted provisional or full driver's licence.
Eligibility Criteria
* Psychology graduate who has successfully completed a 4‐year psychology degree and has commenced the 4+2 registration pathway or the internship year of the 5+1 pathway.
* Passionate, driven, and committed to supporting the mental health and wellbeing of children and young people.
* Flexible, resilient, team‐orientated, reflective and open to continuous development.
Location
Nyngan Public School, Nyngan, NSW (regional community). Temporary placement may include other schools within the area or neighbouring regions.
Remuneration & Incentives
Package valued up to $182,461 + incentives (where applicable). Base salary ranges from $101,122 – $160,983 (subject to experience). Rural and remote incentives of $20,000 – $30,000 per annum are available for eligible positions.
